My little old lady has recently turned into abit of a spoilt pony. Few months ago nearly lost her to laminitis but is now doing much better so she's started being hand grazed the past two months. The problem is that now she's decided that normal walks are not worth doing so will plant her feet and won't move for anything. At first this really panicked me, thinking her feet hurt but she'll move for anyone else minus me because I take her for grass! She is speedy down to the grass area but recently decided she didn't want to come off the sand pen so planted her feet there! Had to get YM to move her, which she moved straight away.
There is no aggression , she looks longingly to the grass area and wont budge!
Where do I start to try and get her to listen again? I think quite a lot of it is me since I nearly lost her so im much softer with her nowadays...

When my girl refuses to move, I stand closer to her shoulder where I normally lead her from & flick the remainder of the lead rope at her bum. She can't see it's me doing the flicking, so looks to me to protect her & guide her - then she'll follow me anywhere.

I have had her since 14 months though & she's a proper "mummy's girl" - might not work so well with a horse of a different temperament ;)

The person behind works well and keeps her moving but sadly I'm on a really quiet yard so struggle to find people to follow behind...I may have to employ someone to follow me around :)
The leadrope worked for a bit but now shed rather have the grass. She can be such a devil pony.

carry a long schooling whip? I used one a lot when in hand walking F because otherwise he is not inclined to walk properly ;)
