I rung the vet today and explained my horses outburst over the weekend.

It turns out my horse does indeed have kissing spines!!! The vet apologised for not being clearer with the diagnosis and said it's because her vertebrae are not actually touching, they are just very close so she didn't want to label it as kissing spines and she was certain that the steroid injection was going to work.

The plan is now to book her in for a bone scan to make sure for certain that is where the pain is coming from and if it is, then I have to make the decision to put her through the op or not.

have you thought about a few weeks work in a pessoa to get her working long and low and strengthening the back, whilst getting her to stretch as well? might be worth doing before you consider surgery. you certainly will have to do this or similar after surgery.

I feel much better i have a diagnosis as now i have a plan!! Obviously i wish she didn't have KS but its the not knowing that was the worst bit. TBH deep down i kind of already knew even before she went to the vets the first time round but just assumed i was thinking the worst.

Have spoke to a few people who's horses have had it and all the ones that have had the operation have a positive outcome and all say they are glad they went ahead with it.

Obviously I will wait to see what the bone scan results say first but i want to get as much info as poss to help with any decisions i need to make.

HAve to say I think that you might benefit from a second opinion. A centre taht deal regularly with kissing spine will be more use than a local vet who sees it occasionally.
