has anyone got any experience with this, how is it diagnosed and treated, what effect does it have on the horse? It appears to be an arthritic condition in the back that's all I know ... thanks

it is a fusing of the spine, we have a chappie who comes to us for the day just to be with the horses whohas it, he is actually prescribed bute..

on a different note my terrier had it and we fed him devils claw and super solivitax oil which tended to keep him lubricated up..

you need your vet to diagnose it and to start a treatment...

Hi,
I'm an equine therapist. Basically spondylitis is another form of a degenerative joint disaese/arthritis. The only thing you can do is manage it well. The most important thing to do is to make sure the horse is taking a high strength joint supplememnt. Be careful as most branded supplememnts massively underdose so check the label. As a rule of thumb the horse should be on 10g/10,000mg of glucosamine, 10g/10,000mg of MSM, and 4g/4000mg of chondroitin daily. Any less than this and it will not have a significant effect. THere are a new range of products called Riaflex. If you type in riaflex-equine in a search engine it should come up. They provide therapy grade joint supplements formulated and produced by a qualified equine therapist. Free advice from a qualified therapist is also offered on all equine injuries etc.
Hope this helps!

Hi Guys. I agree with Healthy but some new products called Pernamax from www.maxavita.com made from green shell mussels have had some great affects on Bill and I think you should have a look at their site before you go off and spend a fortune of glucosamine/msm combinations which have not done anything extraordinary for Bill.
