Just watching a programme about people who live off benefits all their lives coz they cant be bothered to get a job...one man has 18!! children and gets nearly £50k a year off the state....and he says hes not bothered...people like him think the world owe him a living...pah.

Missed the programme but totally agree, there are flaws in the system that allow this.
The biggest con is bad backs.. so many people know damn well they can claim this as a reason for not working, yet manage to ride and muck out with those same bad backs..
mad.gif

It's damn near impossible to disprove...
Why should the rest of us pay taxes to keep them?

And depression...I know this can be bad, but this women had been off sick for 10 years and then said she was looking for the right job..mm wonder what that could be? 1 morning a week for 100k!!!?? not one available, oh well, just keep claiming benefits

Oooohh my back....oh I feel depressed.....oh I am not in the 'right job'
Seriously though, the system that makes it not worthwhile for them to work is at fault as I know many young mothers who want to work as much as possible, but are financially penalised from doing more than 16 hrs a week.

I watched it, what an utter git that man was, and those teenagers. What a shock they get when Anne Widdicombe found them a job!!!
I know a fair few disability fraudsters.

I would really love to work but financially can't - its like this, I earn minimum wage and I have 2 pre-school children. Childcare costs 5.35 per hour - I need child-care for 9.5 hours per day and only get paid for 7 hours a day because the management at work insist that you have 1 hour for lunch and it takes 45 mins to get too and from work. Then you have to pay for car parking and petrol!! Its impossible!! Working tax credit does not help because hubby earns approx 25000-30000 as an electrician. I think we fall in the middle bracket and get overlooked.
I do miss working but it was at the stage where it was costing me money!

I think the reason it annoyed me so much was this guy had more children then he could possibly afford to support and just expects everyone to pay for it.. Im not getting at genuine people who, have a normal family and cant afford to go back to work. Anyway, your husband pays taxes so he is contributing. Its more the attitude of I can earn money on the dole so why work, that was sooo annoying.

I don't for one minute agree with what they are doing....however....I very much doubt a family of 20 people could live particularly well on £50K per year.

Satellite TV aswell I imagine! No blooming food on the table but hey they can have viewing pleasures!

The system is a shambles. But then parents now get much more help than out parents would have.
Just enjoy being a mum for those precious short years that they're young, and not feel guilty about not 'earning'. Mothers do have a right to stay at home and care for their children

This really p*sses me off...GET THIS....there is a new type of housing assosiation near to where I live building brand new houses....fitted kitchens/bathrooms/garages/fully plastered and ready to move in...the peoplengetting the houses are no other than BENEFIT SCROUNGERS that have never worked a day in their lifes.....these people are the same age as my mam and have have countless numbers of kids and never done a days graft in their lives....not only are they being moved into these brand new homes from their old tatty council ones....WAIT FOR IT...they are being offered a £5000 moving fee....which they are using to buy/furnish the house with once in...WTF

mad.gif
....I work my arse off and buy a house and furnish it and they dont work one god damn day and are paid to live in a brand new house, furnish it and still live on welfare to maintain it.....WHY WORK....thats the message

WHY HAVE THESE PEOPLE BEEN ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH NOT WORKING FOR SO MANY YEARS

There is nothing wrong with taking a break to have children...esp if your OH is working.....im talking about people who have literally never worked a day in their lives and have grown up kids

I was a fraud officer in the DHSS (Hendon, London) and have seen and heard it all

. They should send them all over to sunny Italy-here you get 'sweet f**k all' in comparison to GB! Unemployment benefit is awarded after 3 years of paying taxes and lasts the total of ONE year! Income benefit doesnt exist and if youre at the point of moving into a cardboard box the townhall might just consider giving you enough to get by on! Italy has very few scroungers

I thought she said she'd been off for 2 years. Thats not bad for depression and having been through it myself, (but kept working as it wasnt work related,) I can understand why she was being careful. Its a long hard climb out of depression and once out you dont want to go back!

But the two teenage girls and the chap with 18 kids were just lazy. Especially the bloke. The teenage girls had left school with no qualifications- pretty hard to achieve nowadays so suspect they could be bothered to go to school either. The chap did not want to work at all. I think the state should have him castrated!!!

And lets be honest its not good for the children to be brought up with parents who have this attitude to work. I would think in a few years time there will be another 18 benefit scroungers too!!

I 2 watched that programme with disgust! When i had my little boy 5yr ago i had to leave work due to the cost of childcare, wasnt worth me working,i would have probably ended up with £1.00 an hour, plus i couldnt work shifts due to my OH working!I had to rely on benefits,(hated being on the dole)i was allowed to claim this for all of 6mnths,when i asked them why,it was because my partner worked,we WERE NOT married at the time so why should he have to keep me,baby yes,me no!!Tax credits r a waste of space 2,OH came out of work for 5mnths last yr,we couldnt claim a penny??Unfortunately you have to know how to work the system for it to be of any use to you at all,i know loads of bone idle gits that dont work because they get enough off the state, most of them have ALL named clothes and spend every day in the pub,we're lucky if we get to the pub once a wk,lol!!

That programme made me fume too. THe best of if was he had his wife and girlfriend living there! I am a single Mum so do receive tax credits, but also work in a shop and have 3 different cleaning jobs to bring in the money. I totally agree that there is nothing wrong with taking time out of work with pre school children, but get so angry when people say there are no jobs out there. Maybe not glamorous ones but there is always something available. Wonder how long the teenagers will stick a the painting - mind you at £360 a week I might give it a go!

Did they get that between them tho?? Seemed like a really good wage for a nice non stressful job like painting.
You can always get a job if you want to... I got made redundant many years ago, yet found 3 jobs to keep me tied over till I found a permanent one...one cleaning hotel rooms, one in a bar, and another doing some other boring stuff! but it was better than claiming off the dole....some people just are too lazy to work and think the world owes them a living...made my blood boil!

What really makes my blood boil is, the genuinely depressed & disabled are lumped in with the cheaters & made to feel guilty.
There are genuine cases out there, are they supposed to sit indoors & have no life too ?
If you have an "on off" disability which can flare up at any time it's very hard to find employment, as you cannot give any guarantee that you'll be fit for a given period.
This country doesn't really help genuinely disabled find work.

When I was a kid, my mum worked evenings...and went to work when dad got home.... they had to....there wasnt the benefit system back then that there is now. (not at dig at you Tootsiepop...if you can afford not to then thats great!)

Where we live in South Kent we also have the pleasure of the 'immigrant' community who pop over here in the back of a truck and hey preston! Accom found for them when we have hundreds of decent low income families on the council housing lists....... the country has gone mad!

We all work bl00dy hard, get half our money taken away in taxes and then some of it goes to spongers who are too lazy to get a job in the first place, makes me SO ANGRY

i think one of the problems is that they hand out more and more money if you have more kids. Apart from child benefir which everyone gets I don't think they should only get the amount for the number of kids they had when they started claiming benefits. Then if they still choose to have 10 children they will have to support them on the same money. After all if I had another child I couldn't go to my boss and except a raise!!

My OH and I aren't married, but he made a choice when we had a baby together. Even more shocking is that i already had a child by a different man... and my OH chose to take him on too. He works full time and I stay at home with the kids. I wouldnt expect the DSS to support me. My OH supports me.. because we had a child together.

I didn't see the programme but this sort of thing makes me FUME! I watched a thing on the news a few weeks ago where here was a woman who had come here from another country (Eastern European I think), was on benefits and had been GIVEN a 1 bed flat to live in. She then proceeded to have SEVEN children - then moan that her flat wasn't big enough and she needed a house!

I'd love to have kids but I don't feel I can afford it at the moment, although the clock is ticking! I'd never expect to be 'given' a nice big house and some money to live on! What's going on with this country? I think the one word these people need to get into their vocabulary is CONTRACEPTION!!!!!
