Spongers on Benefits! Rant..

And I bet she got given her bigger house! perhaps I should have 10 kids, complain about my house and get given a nice 7 bed place, lie in the garden all day and do nothing....hmmm.

or perhaps I should work 10 hour days and pay for these people to do it....
 
I wish I had thought about not being bothered to work and popping out sprogs by lots of different men so I could have been given a house

Then I wouldn't have to work so hard for house, bills, pathetic social life & ponio.

On a serious note though there is nothing wrong with not working whilst you have small children, I bet it is bloody hard work and very difficult. That is what is so awful, you have people that not only want to work but would contribute to a working society, but are unable to do so due to the cost of childcare, and then you get people who cannot be bothered to work and get paid handsomely for it - by me!!!

I didn't watch the program but I have seen others like it and read magazine articals on the matter and it makes my blood boil!!!! I am going to go to uni, run up a huge dept for myself, work myself silly in order to provide for myself and my horse, and work my arse off me when i leave and get a full time job to afford what I need...........and for what, for a large percentage of my wage to be deducted and handed to people who are too lazy to do anything other than have unprotected sex and pop out kids left right and center! This society discusts me and I feel ashamed to call myself British with the state the country is in now!!!!

Thing that REALLY winds me up are carers- they "chose" to be on benifits to look after someone(saving the state a bloody fortune) but are still dumped in the benifit scounger catagory.
They work just as hard as people paid to be in caring jobs but dont get to clock off,it's 24/7 yet STILL have the abuse thrown at them for being a burdan on the state and "why should my taxes pay for you to sit on your ass".

As for the lady with depression, well the mental health service is a shambles.
Because people dont die from lack of care it's the first secter of the NHS to get cuts and the last to recive extra funds, there simply isnt the suport out there.
For most that dont need to be in hospital,it's a case of dish out pills and get on with it.
Which in turn dumps the persons problems onto the carer......

Sorry but I doubt what you have said is entirely accurate. The majority of Housing Associations have a criteria which you must meet before you are put onto a waiting list. One of which is that you have a steady income. Housing Associations are not for "Benefit scroungers" they are for people - like myself - who require affordable housing. Both my husband and I work Full Time, we both have well paid jobs BUT cannot afford to buy or rent privately in our area (South East London) to move out of the area is not an option due to our jobs.

All Housing Associations are required by Law to bring their properties up to a certain standard by 2010 therefore alot of HA's are being fitted with new kitchens and bathrooms. As for plastering - not entirely sure that is true unless they are new build.

With regards to the Moving incentive £5,000 - where did you read that? I doubt very much that it is true. When my husband and I moved properties we were given one week's free rent and a £100 B&Q voucher which was absolutely fab. Any tenant who lives in a property bigger than what he/she necessarily needs is offered £500 to move to a smaller property.

People who live in Housing Associations - and there are alot of us! are not benefit scroungers I count myself very lucky and hope one day I will be able to afford to buy my own house.

oh and linking onto this, theyll be the asses then that come along and take what we all work so hard for.......i work full time, study part time, work part time etc etc etc cant afford to do anything and some ass nicks my car and sets it on fire just to get the leather interior out (a few weeks back). whats the point in having anything nice? sorry my rant over. feeling a bit hard done by and so glad i missed the show last night, even tho i had aimed to watch it.

This idea of 'free housing' is silly.

In order to get your rent paid by the housing benefit department you have to jump through many hoops. They assess your housing and wether you could be living somewhere smaller. Half the time they only give you 80% of the rent (this is for single parents).
Then your council tax needs paying, again, you're lucky if you get 80% of this paid too.
Then comes benefits. When I was scrounging I got 63 pounds a week, plus 15 pounds child benefit. I havent a clue what it is now. Anyway, out of that 80 pounds I had to pay :
10 pounds rent
5 pounds council tax
10 pounds electric
5 pounds gas
5 pounds put by for water
Nappies @ 10 pounds a week
enough food for a week which would cost me about 40 pounds.
Which left precious little for clothing, shoes etc etc.

When I went to work three evenings a week they told me my benefits would be stopped. I only earnt 30 pounds a week maximum...

I was in housing association, and had to prove a clean criminal record. Yes, i was put in a brand spanking new house, but it wasnt in a nice area. I paid more on a 2 bed box than my friend paid in rent on a 3 bed house in the country. At the time I had no choice. My son's father had upped and left me, and left me with NOTHING.

For me it was more cost effective to stay at home than to go out to work. To work full time I'd have needed 500 pounds upfront to pay the month in advance for nursery. Seeing as I couldnt even afford to pay bus fares to work until my first pay packet I certainally couldnt afford to pay for nursery.
And the job centres advice??
Stay at home.

edited because I got roundabout 80 pounds a week altogether, not from one payment.
 
I didn't watch this on purpose..........if i did i could well have punched the tv!!! This is one topic that always makes my blood boil and im a calm person!!!

The benefits system is a joke.........they shouldn't provide additional benefits for extra children.........you want to have kids go ahead, the state should help support one.........you want to have more..........flipping pay for them yourself!!! If they introduced a policy like this there would be far fewer people pushing out kids just to get more benefits and get a house.
benefits should be there as a short term solution to someone who is having trouble........not as permanent income for people who are to lazy to go out and work!!!.
It really gets to me as my dad (who is on a v good wage) has worked so so hard all his life to get to where he has to hand over thousands and thousands of pounds every year to people who cant be bothered to work!
I have worked since i was 16 and if i could get a job when i was 16 (no experience.just school) anybody can!! ne of my colleagues claims some benefits which i don't mind as she fell pregnant with her first at 13 and now has 3 children.......however both her and her husband work as much as possible...so at least they are trying to pay there own way!! She didn't even finish school and she has a job, works 16 hours a week and has done since she was about 17/18!!!
Sorry im really ranting now so i will shut up.......can you tell this really gets to me?!!!!
 
As i said benefits should be a short term solution for something............not for those that can go to work but are just to lazy to do so.
the benefit system does need to be there for cases like that, and i have no problem with that at all!!!!
Its cases like the ones on the tv that really get to me!!
 
Very much so!!!
Some of my family claim benefits but they all work and try to pay there way but the wage they earn is not enough to live off.........situations like that don't grate on me....its those that don't try and pay there own way..thats what really get to me!!!
I hope i never have to claim benefits because people like those on tv are making recieving benefits really hard for those that do actually really need them!!

There's a young girl next door to me who's had more men than I've had hot dinners, she's got a child, they drink Strongbow like its going out of fashion party all night long as loudly as possibe, treat the surrouning neighbours like sh1t and are given the two bed house they live in by the council fully paid. I live next door in a one bed flat busting a gut to keep the roof over my head and working myself into the ground to do it and get no help at all. It makes me sick because I'm single and work I don't get diddly squat but if I had a child everything would be handed to me on a plate.

It personally makes me mad! My sisters bf is on disability, gets a free flat, free parking space, and he does some part time work as well for ££. She lives with him and doesn't pay rent - and she whines about not having any ££ when she has more disposable than me! I must point out though that her bf DOES have problems with his back and if he stand or sits for longer than about 30 mins he starts to lose feeling in his legs - its my sis that bugs me!

I work 40 hrs a week, and after I pay rent and livery etc (ok I know that horses are a luxury) I have around £200 to spend on food and anything like going out.

I am by no means saying I am hard done by, but I know scroungers that have more disposable income than me and I dont think its fair!

Neither does my OH which is why he has gotten a job where he claims his Taxes back every year as he doesn't feel he should be paying for the dishonest ones. His dad has a VERY bad back, and due to an incident when he was young has lost 2 fingers on 1 hand, he doesn't claim disability but works as a taxi driver! The guy across from them in in disability, horrible man, supposedly his back but we regularly see him on the ground fixing cars, humphing stuff about, up ladders - perfectly fine. Oh and he gets a spanking new car every 3 years!

It just makes me mad when i look at my pay slip and see that every month £200 of my money will be going towards scroungers!

They need to make it so that it runs out after a certain time, and that if you claim disability you have to have comprehensive tests (no thats not discriminatory towards them). And as for this getting a car thing - only folk who CANT take public transport should get it! I know one woman that got a Mobility car cos she has cancer on her finger and lost the TIP of it!!

If you have an "on off" disability which can flare up at any time it's very hard to find employment, as you cannot give any guarantee that you'll be fit for a given period.
This country doesn't really help genuinely disabled find work.

My son has severe arthritis in both feet but has worked since leaving full time education, apart from two seperate occasions when he's had ops on them.

We had to go through hell to get any money out of the system for him to live on when he was unable to work for a long time, and even then, all he could get was job seekers allowance of 30 odd quid per week.
To qualify for that, he had to prove he was actively seeking employment, and had to have regular 'back to work interviews' (interrogations), even though he could barely walk, and was still employed anyway!

With regard to the benefit baby boom, the answer is simple. Parents should have a set amount of money full stop. No increments for every child they have.
When you work, you don't get a payrise for every child you have, so you have what you can afford.
If that same principle applied to benefits, I'm sure we'd see a reduction in the number of children scroungers have.

In which case your sis and her BF are comitting benefit fraud. If he is in receipt of housing benefit and your sis is living with him and working full time he is NOT entitled to housing benafit or council tax benefit. It makes me wonder if she's paying council tax??
 
If it's any consolation it's not just here

my mate works in brussels and the employees there are not by law allowed to be put on any out of hours rota if they have children - so only the childless can be asked (forced) to do out of hours.

I hate these people with all these kids - and then society wonders why there are unsupervised, gun/knife toting murdering b****ds on the streets

because if the parents are too lazy to work, and produce children in order to milk the system, then they are unlikely to 'parent' said offspring properly.

people who stay at home at the start of having a family, having previously been employed and intend to go back to work when kids are say 5, are a different case altogether. They've paid into the 'system' in their taxes whilst they were working

what gets me is the 14 yr olds upwards that go straight from school onto benefits with screaming sproglet or 3 and stay there for life. They've never contributed, they've only taken from the system.
 
I didn't see the programme but I used to work for the Benefits Agency (DSS as it was called then) so I know a bit about benefit scroungers. We weren't allowed to call them that mind, we had to refer to them as "customers". Can you believe it? Customers are people that pay money to receive things not just hold their hands out and have money placed in them surely?

If you do know a benefit scrounger please report them rather than just moaning about them. It's not "snitching", it's doing what is right and fair to the rest of the hard working populace of this country.
 
a bloke my OH was at uni with (in the days when you could postal sign-on) was on the dole, bought a house with a pool in cuba (or somesuch low cost country) and employed staff! his dole was paying for all this!

I love the idear someone on here had about htat(sorry cant remember who it was!).
Full payment at current rate for child #1,half payment for child #2 and nothing for any further children.
That IMO wouldnt stop disabled people who are really unable to work having a family, but WOULD stop people having children just to avoid a job.

As for reporting them, DO IT DO IT DO IT but dont expect them to get what's comming!
At the risk of sounding a real hard faced cow I have reported my mother god knows how many times.
She has benifits paid because she is a widow,I am youngest child of my father and I am 25,married with a family of my own and she has a son to someone else so dont see why she should be getting anything from the state(little brother is 13 next month,more then old enough to be trusted with keys and grab himself a snak after school if she was still at work when he got home).
There simply is NO reason for her to be getting any kind of benifit,but still does st the same amount she got when we were children just after my father died

i get mad at this also, but i hate the way my sister is dumped in with the benefit scrounger single mother lot, as she's alone with two kids.
the kids were planned, but her hubby then decided he 'wasn't ready for kids' and left her. he has never paid a penny towards them and refuses to (although im not sure she would accept it anyway), and left his job so his wages couldnt be deducted at source by the csa. is now claiming dole and working cash in hand.

still its my sister who has the single mother on benefits tag (she's at home at present as youngest son is disabled)
 
One particluar area in America(cant remember where) which was full of teenage single mums claiming benefits. They did the stopping support thing after the first child. The pregnancy rate of that area dropped so quickly (can't remember the exact %).
So if the uk did this, there would be less teenage single parents pushing kids out to get money and the benefits bill would be reduced.........i fail to see the disadvantage to doing this!!!
 
I think the other thing that would make the system fairer is to add to the above is if someone earns over 40k per year as a household income then they get nothing for their children at all.

why should e.g. gordon brown or tony blair be getting money for their kids

that would mean more money to go round for those that needed it - e.g. genuine disabled, pensioners on the poverty line
 
I personally think everyone should just be given £100 per week (hell even £200 per week would not make a dent) regardless of whether they have children or not, or whether they are married or not. What they do with this money would be up to them; they could remain single and enjoy an extra few nights out at the pub if they so desired, but if they wanted to have 3 children and not work then so beit, but they are given no more.

I believe that the amount the country would save by not having so many Civil Servants pushing all those pencils around, would easily be enough to pay this sort of money out AND the Govt would have a whopping sum still left over.......however their unemployment figures may not look so good.....

grrrrr not going to get onto this subject i might end up doing a jackanory but benefits should ONLY be for the REAL needy not the bummers lazy lowlifes who cant bebothered to earn a living i think only the disabled,oap"s and a small majority(with good causes should be entitled not every tom,dick,and harry and i think only BRITISH citizens should be entitled sorry for the rant
