hi anyone whos done these before.
i really want to do a sponsered ride for cancer research or something along those lines.
now i would do this with anyone else who would want to join and would want to do somehting along the lines of the 'John O'Groats to Lands End' (north to south)
but what i was wondering was how would you go about it all, i mean obv the horses would have to rest etc so how would you do it all.
i realise i sound brainless but any help would be greatly recieved

John O'Groats to Lands End is an awfully long way. It would take you weeks (i'm thinking 5 or 6 weeks, without any rest days)
Can you take that long off work?

im not working, im in my last year of school so would do it in the holidays next year or 2011. i wasnt really thinking of John O'Groats to Lands End it was just an example of doing a long testing one

that is far too far i understand

Why don't you look at doing the Ridgeway (80miles) as a "test" to see you & horsey cope okay. And then the Pennine Way Bridleway (about 270miles) as a sponsored ride proper?

Ridgeway is about 80miles - so about 4days riding - Google it. Its mainly bridleways, so loads of watering points and B&B's with stabling on-route.

I've walked the Ridgeway a couple of years ago and the Pennine way 10yrs ago (walked the footpath - the Bridleway wasn't in place back then)

Both are stunning countryside. The Pennine way is a lot more rural. I would LOVE to ride them both!
