I am considering doing a sponsored ride but I haven't done one for years so I'm not sure what to expect. Are they generally fast and furious or are they a bit more leisurely? The course is 7 1/2 miles long and my pony is reasonably fit but we have only ever hacked out for about an hour. Will it be too much for her do you think?

My daughters do sponsored rides.
You normally get a time slot and can go at what pace suits you.
Faster people may take over you but should ask/inform you first and not gallop past.
They are lots of fun for horses and rider so go and enjoy.
Where are you thinking of doing it?

If you hack for an hour, you will probably cover 4 miles, so doing 7.5 is not going to kill her. I am sure you will have a great time, you get to ride over country that normally is not accessible, like private fields and woodland, some rides have jumps. They usually set people off in timed intervals so there shouldn't be a mad rush.

My normally sensible old horse used to get very excited about sponsored rides, I think she thought it was hunting. But I never really noticed people galloping around.

Expect to have fun!!

At the grand age of 36 I have done a couple from 10-20 miles and we went at out own pace and every one was on them for the same reason. People ask to pass and normally do so at walk, you nomally catch up with other riders have a gossip then carry on its really really good fun

Just make sure you wear BIG knickers!!!! as it can be a good couple of hours in the saddle and have drink and "mars" bar waiting for when you get back

enjoy

Thanks for all the encouragement. I have the big knickers ready and I'm starting to look forward to it now. I had a lesson this afternoon and my pony was a little a star and worked so hard for me so we both deserve to have some fun and let our hair (mane!) down.
