A good friend of mine, who is regarded as a very talented young rider (show jumping) is looking for some sponsorship, (even if it just helped with diesel to shows) and i agreed to help her find sponsors but just wondering how best to go about it or if anyone has any pointers or advice

thanks in advance

local companies are a good start, sometimes they're very happy to have their name and details on a horsebox.
i heard of a rider a year or two ago who got pretty useful sponsorship from her local bathroom showroom, for instance!
it's always worth asking, and stressing what she can do for them, not the other way around.
there have been useful threads on this before, btw. best of luck!

thanks were going to mock up a letter and references from owners and from area rep and post to as many local business as poss

I think face to face and being pushy is vital. I do a bit of paperwork for a 4* rider and put together a sponsorship portfolio for her. But it ideally needs to be chased up and followed up with phone calls.

BEING PUSHY?? Errr No!!

If you are pushy you will really annoy people, dedicated, persistent and dont give up but think pushy is not the way forward.

The Company I work for provide some sponsorship for me and my own website obviously helps out a bit too.

Local businesses, especially smaller organisations will be more helpful than the larger ones usually.

Some very average eventers have managed to get sponsorship through being pushy and persistant. They have a never say die attitude and keep working on it. Unfortunately the rider I know is very good at producing horses and not very good at selling herself which is great for results but not for picking up sponsorship.
