Sponsorship and how to go about it

I would like to get some sponsorship for my dressage horse and his 15 yr old rider. She is the backbone of the Welsh dressage team and this year they really are going places with UK squading trials, Nationals and Regionals looming plus qualifiying for Ireland and Scottish competitions I feel that just providing them with the horse is not good enough.
How does one set about obtaining sponsorship deals and how does sponsorship work tax wise?

I know it's for dressage but if you go to the British Eventing website they have a rather helpful download on sponsorship.
