Hello, my o/h works for a company which manufactures/ distributes sunglasses. They have recently aquired a new brand which used to be known in the UK but has been out of it for a while although it is still big in Europe.

Anyway o/h has been speaking to his boss today about possibly trying to get into the equine market (due to lots of nagging by me I think :D ) and his boss has got quite excited and decided they should have a tradestand at Badminton and Burghley next year and sponsor the British Team  he has told o/h to put something together for him by Friday  and they will take it from there, so o/h has come home and asked me to do it for him because I have a horse so therefore am apparently an expert at launching products into the market ;)

I have suggested that maybe Bramham/ Chatsworth/ Belton might be good events to exhibit at early next year, and rather than just sponsor the British Team, they should also sponsor a couple of amatures/ owner/riders (maybe even some hho'ers!), or up and coming professionals.

My main questions are, as a rider what would you expect from a sponsor ? The company would probably be willing to give away a fair bit of product, and looking for some feedback, maybe a couple of photos - not talking major photoshoots here, maybe just something of a rider walking a cross country course, want the rider to wear them when out and about. Would riders be willing to do any of this? They wouldn't be expected to give up much, if any time - just be seen wearing the glasses as often as possible (although with the British weather this may be never!) Do you think this would be ok? For an amature (sp) or up and coming rider they may also pay some money towards entry fees/ diesel, but they tend to spend all their marketing budget on their other two brands as they are more expensive products.
So do you think people would be willing to give a bit of feedback and have their photo taken wearing the glasses or are riders looking for a lot more from their sponsors today? What are peoples experiences of sponsors?

Wine and chicken fajitas if you have got this far, any help or ideas, or ideas of riders who might be a good ambasador for the brand would be great too, pm if you prefer. Thank you in advance xxx

You will have millions applying,lol.
I think the best way to get exposure would be to offer to sponsor some training and get people to apply with video or photos and their aims. Make sure you don't choose a one horse person as if the horse goes lame then it might come to a halt. We were lucky enough to get a training bursary last year which was £100 every three months to spend on training and we had to write an article every month with photos as it was for a magazine. Loads applied for it. Maybe getting them to put their videos on you tube might give you exposure but not sure about this . We got a jacket and saddle cloth to use as well.
Good luck, great that you are going to help someone.

I am no expert on any level, but I would imagine for something like sunglasses that the company could expect the rider to be seen with those as often as is reasonable (+photos and recommendation), in return for something being paid for, either money/jumps/transport/fuel or something similar.

just a thought as they are sunglasses perhaps you could suggest a deal/sponsorship with some of the horse safari companies advertising in the UK? I know the safaris are abroad but the companies that get their clients from the UK. Just thought it would be a good opportunity to see riders wearing the sunglasses whilst actually riding :).
I wouldnt be adverse to some sponsorship myself mind ;)...Im waiting until I know whether Im selling my main eventer or not before I start to pester companies :p.
PS as the product doesnt necessarily "help" the competitive rider in the sense of providing a product that they NEED for free I would want some monetary support for competition entries and in exchange would be prepared to wear the sunglasses (when sunny! :p) have the companies name/logo put on my horsebox and even have the logo put on my competitive gear (when allowed for competition) providing they were making a substantial contribution (only really room for one sponsor on your riding kit!). Hope that helps :)

Thanks sj_xc_hannah_ I thought that they would need to offer something more thank just a pair of sunglasses, I've been reading through the sponsorship threads on here but they all come from the opposite side of the coin! x
