I'm looking to get some sort of sponsorship for me and the Bos this year, we show at county level and am going to try to qualify for HOYS and RIHS through coloured classes and search for a star.
We have an excellent record from last year at county and affiliated level, however as it was only his first year in ridden showing I didnt attempt to qualify for any big shows.

Whats the best way to go about seeking sponsorship? And the best companies/businesses to approach? Any advice would be helpfull. Thanks.

I don't think you can do SFAS if you are sponsored. You need to be very careful if you go down this route! SFAS is for amateurs and if you are sponsored I think you fall into the professional category.

central horse magazine do a 'win a sponsorship' comp maybe you could enter that, otherwise you could write to companies. The equestrian companies tend to stick with big names.

Local businesses are a good place to start, you may be able to find a local person who would do a private sponsorship, and just want to join in with the social side of competing etc.

If you have a web site, try putting a sponsorship proposal on it, and maybe advertise/ get an interview done for your local paper?

Its essential to put a portfolio together. Research target audience ie amount of newspaper/tv coverage, photo oportunities etc the amount of people it reaches - does it match your sponsors market?. lorry advertising - .What you can offer the sponsor? How the sponsor will benefit by what you have to offer etc etc. Then target your potential sponsor when you have tied up all the details of above. Also research company directors etc to see if any have equine interests etc. They will laugh at you if you simply go in to the office with a piece of paper and basically say please give me money cos I'm worth it without any backup. You may have to redo your portfolio several times ie from a different perspective with each company Also, sorry to be practical, but if you are young and good looking it helps (only later did I understand why the telegraph wanted me to pose on a freezing cold day in a tiny silk shirt!)

Also remember that if you advertise your sponsor on your wagon you need an operators liscence as you are concidered to be driving for financial gain. this involves a cpc and a service of your lorry every 6 weeks and they will ask for proof of the services, so unless your sponsor is willing to pay for the serviceing and the CPC which is hard to get then it realy isnt worth it.
