Hi,
After someone saw me dismount gracefully in the discovery at the first fence recently, they suggested I try a fly veil with bobbles or a pair of sheepskin covers to go either side of bridle.
To give you the full story, (a short one) the first fence was coming off the boundary fence where there were pots of flowers (about 5), and horse was looking at these, so I had to over exaggerate the turning aids. By the time she turned and saw the fence, we were 3 strides away, and she took a hold and ran at it, then stopped!

I came off! Lady who was watching and talking to hubby said that she had told someone else to do this and it had worked. Anyone else tried it?
Does it work?

How often does this happen though? I mean if it was just a one-off then I wouldn't do anything TBH. If the horse was generally spooky - I guess you could try sheepskin covers but I personally dont see how they do that much.....

One of my horses is like this - he spooks like hell at things ROUND the ring but if he's pointed at it, he'll jump it! Very odd.

Thanks MM, this is a regular thing. She spooks at the stuff around the outside and even at the fences when cantering past them, but jumps them when I point her at them! Its just that she does spook a lot and like on Wednesday it was such an issue that she wasnt concentrating on where we were supposed to be going and so didnt have a chance at the first fence. I will try the fly veil thing I think. Thanks for your reply.
