Has anyone else encountered this:

A particular part of a field which all the horses are nervous of? At our yard - each horse has its own patch (for strip grazing cos the grass is so rich), but no matter whcih horse you put at the top of one of the fields - it freaks out!! Some horses freak out just walking past that end of the field!!

There is nothing obviously spooky - just another field next door, but they seem to sense something that we dont?!!

(Should I be worried about going to the field alone incase there is something scarey there, or have I just been watching to much junk TV???!!!!)

Well one part of our ride is called the spooky trees talk about asking for trouble! pickle hates it and the low branches are a bit dangerous when on a 17hh we tend to avoid it

We too have a spooky field. When the horses first go out in spring they wont go down to the bottom but eventually they seem to get used to it.
Its always my horse that has to go down there and I hate poo picking down there.

At the yard we've just left the outdoor school was incredibly spooky. All our horses spooked and were tense whenever in the school and the people who had the yard before us had the same problem. Horses that are perfectly sane in other schools turn it quaking wrecks. We've only just found out that the local rumour is years ago the farmer that used to own the property used to slaughter pigs where the school now is. So we reckon ghost pigs were the problem.

We've moved now and the horses haven't spooked once in the new school.

My horse always spooks in one corner of the outdoor school. He and another horse also always whizz through one particular gate that leads from one field to another, yet none of the others at the yard seem bothered by it. I put it down to my lad being a neurotic freak most of the time as he can scare himself at a blade of grass blowing in the wind!!
