I've had my horse for a couple of months now. He's some sort of cob type that usually are pretty laid back and don't spook at much. Unfortunately he spooks whenever I try and take him out for a walk. He usually will be walking along happily one minute then the next he'll have bolted and won't stop till we get back to the yard. I've tried loads of things to get him to stop from leading him up and down the path to making sure he isn't hurt/uncomfortable for any reason. If anyone could help that would be great! Thanks in advance!

Horses. Are individuals, I have two cobs, one who is a star and one that spooks. You need some help I think. Does he do this when he is with another horse or just on his own? See if you can get someone to ride out with you to help build his confidence. Have some lessons to build your relationship with him, it's early days yet. Also make sure you get all the checks done......teeth, tack and back. Pain can make horses do a lot of things.

Thanks, I only ride him out with other horses as he's reasonably young, I'm hopefully getting a trainer in the next couple of weeks so I can talk to her about it. He's been thoroughly checked by the vet - that's the first thing I did!

You need to get the trainer asap as this is dangerous and you need to stop riding until it's sorted. Try taking him out for walks in hand and do some spooky training in the field. Umbrellas, balloons etc.

Yes, I've tried taking him out 3 times (twice ridden, once in hand) but I've stopped because he (or I) could get hurt. As I said to someone else I have a couple of people who are going to call me about training so hopefully they can help sort it.

Private seller, I still keep him on her yard and I've asked her about this problem as she said he was fine to hack and all she said was "he seems a bit funny on hacks but it doesn't matter"

wow, I don't like that response. you need help from someone who knows what they are doing. you need someone who is sympathetic but can cope with a cob. I suspect he is testing the boundaries but you need to sort it quick because it will get to be a much bigger, more dangerous issue for both him and you. good luck
