Looking for advice with my mare.
In the winter she's fine, pretty steady, we have the odd escape attempt but manageable.
Coming into the summer and she's a handful. Spooking and bolting in saddle and the ground, not catching, being really high strung, breaking out of the field. A million times worse than in winter when her turnout is restricted. She comes in everyday but she's definitely out more than in to take advantage of good weather.

I've had teeth checked, full vet work up, she's on the same feed, she's been on magnesium supplements for months, saddle checked, she's sound no issues.
The vet wanted to try her on regumate which she's been on for 6 weeks, no difference really.
What do I do now? Check for ulcers? Restrict her turnout?

I’m sure many will be along with more scientific responses than me. But I would put some of her exuberance down to a belly full of spring grass and feeling rather “well” in herself.

What type of magnesium supplement is she on and how much? What feed is she on - can it be cut down in the summer if she is getting more nutrition from the grass? I wonder if it could be the spring grass affecting her hind gut - have you tried a hind gut supplement/yeast/something similar?

I've reduced the amount I feed her when she's out to try and prevent her getting too fat but still get the minerals. She's on 2 teaspoons of magnesium oxide powder. I haven't tried anything for her hindgut, I might give yeast a go
