I'm thinking of training to become a sports massage therapist for horse and rider!
Just really wanted to know if it's a good career move, do people use them?
I know it's not going to be a case of give up office job and do this full time, I know its going to take time to build up clients a good reputation. I do very much believe the benefits are wonderful and used as a maintenance regime can be very beneficial.
Would like to hear your views/experiences

I've got a GP showjumper and he has a massage every week.
He doesn't have any problems so its for more of a preventative / feel good reason. He is def much more supple after his sessions so it must be doing him some good! And his little face is a picture when he's having it he obviously loves it

I just thought that top athletes look after themselves with massages etc and thats what my horse is a top athlete so I'd treat him the same!

Don't know about the horse part but I use a sports massage therapist on a regular (weekly to monthly depending on work) - had a number of injuries and now use for prevention and frankly its my treat.

If you are going to do it, get in touch with local sports groups (football, rugby, running as well as equestrian) - I found him through my running club and get a 10% discount. He seems to have regular clients like myself, people who go just once, and people who have about 6 sessions for a specific injury.

Also I did check out his qualifications before going so it is worth paying for the best course you can.

Thanks for your replies, has given me the reassurance to seriously look at it. I will deff be attending a course that provides "proper" qualifications, I won't be trying to take a short cut!
