Phoenix is having his big boy operation today. The one that turns him from a multi purpose pet into a sports model.

As a puppy he broke his leg so he's used to the vets, they weigh him and fuss him and he sits with the nurse behind the counter in reception and helps the vet eat his lunch.

Today he didn't want to go. Ge put his paws round my waist and whined. He hid behind me and cried like a small child.

He is not a small child, he's a long legged american staff who stands as high as my knee and weighs 20kgs.

He's going to hate me isn't he?

I tried explaining that he'll be able to concentrate better afterwards and that he'll stop fancying his twin sister, and that he might stop trying to wee in the house so then he can watch tv with me again (he currently lives on the yard, we learnt from our mistakes!!), and that he won't catch them on the fence when he jumps it anymore.

It didn't help. He wants to keep them. I mean really wants to. OH couldn't even come to vets with us, he felt too bad about it.

He will forgive me eventually won't he?!!!!!

I have to take my baby boy for a big op on Thurs. He has to stay overnight!!! EEEk!! I am also dreading it but have told him he will be pain free in that leg afterwards. He puts his lovely big head on my knee and gazes trustingly at me. If only he could speak English. Think you have a tougher time explaining the op to your boy though!!!!

He will forgive you

My puppy is only 15 weeks old and me and the OH have already had a difference of opinion over the big boy op!!
I say we should get him done for all the reasons you've listed and OH says no because he can't bear the thought of 'them' being chopped off!!!

He will forgive you - hope all goes well x

Oh would feel an awful lot worse at the prospect of having all the hormones in his body but never ever being able to have sex - saw that on 'its me or the dog' once and have said to clients, it was amazing how quickly the men changes their mind

Also saves going through it when he's an old man a possibly developed lumps (quite common)

When we picked Barnes up after his conkers op he hated me for about and hour. I was heartbroken as he is a real Mummy's boy! However even while still feeling a bit groggy he decided cuddles was a better option than sulking and soon forgot all about it!

My OH was all for laying in front of the car to stop me taking him in the first place, until I explained that I would have no qualms what so ever about running him over, if it meant Barnes was a happier pup without his bits!

well he came home last night. bit sore but desperate for hugs and cuddles. He was very proud to be allowed in the house! Kept climbing on his dads knee as an excuse to stand on his (insert what phoenix is now lacking!!). Fidgeted a lot in the night and ended up sleeping outside with his big bro as normal. I did let him in this morning to get his dad up tho!!!

His Dad came to collect him and they had a chat in the car while I drove home. He just seemed to want to sit on my knee, (Phoenix, not OH!!) The others are all really curious about his pouch but he was the only one with extras so no-one's making fun of him. His twin sis is glued to his side most of the time which is nice as lately she's been a bit funny with him.

He doesn't hate me at all, which is nice!! Seems instead to be blaming his dad, male solidarity and all that! He is yet to notice many real benefits but I'm sure he will!!

Good luck thurs with your boy Mattilda.

I don't think dogs actually think like that... I think they are more 'I'll take the opportunity if I get it' rather that worrying about never having sex

Although I expect you probably didn't quite mean it like that.
