I am toying with the idea of putting one of my mares to a sports pony stallion, and would be interested to tap into everyone's thoughts, experiences and oppinions please !!

Would like to throw it wide open for discussion, to give me plenty of food for thought - I've not been dissappointed by previous posts!!!!!

So... who is using one? Who has stock on the ground by any? What level are you aiming them at? And so on!!

Once again, cheers all!!

Trenawin Lanikai is a super little stallion. Stands in Dorset and has county show winning stock from few coverings. A real Holstein horse in pony clothing. Was going to use him on my jumping bred mare (until I put her on loan).
Stands at Holnest Park Stud.

Dowland Ko Bo diddley will be standing to a limited number of mares next year i believe.

He is the only trakehner graded sports pony in the world!

Also at 15.2hh Fairlyn gemini is a very usefull sire of both competition and show horses. Only available frozen as he is deceased!

We have a Brokat yearling here. I suggested my boss used him on her 3rd generation homebred PBA mare. He is very well made, interestingly more araby in his head than mum (who is more than 50& herself) and the mare will be bred back to him next year in the hope of a filly

I like Daydream a lot too if you're looking for pony stallions

Caesar 171 would be my pony stallion of choice. He is on the SPSS website. After seeing his lovely babies at the SPSS grading last month. Especially little 4 week old Basil! He just blew me away! Lovely people that have Caesar too!

Looking at pony stallions can be a mine field. It really depends what you are aiming to breed. For example there are many M&M stallions that are licensed by their breed society as 'good' examples of the breed. Some societies only require a vetting while others like the New Forest Society inspect & grade their young stallions before licensing them. This includes them being true to type. movement and temperament.

Many of the pony licensing authorities don't performance grade their stallions until they are much older (10 yrs +). Many of these societies will have data on stallions & how their progeny are doing.

The other place to look for a 'good' sports pony stallion is the SPSS as they grade stallions on their ability as performance stallions and monitor their progress and what their progeny achieve.

All of the pony stallions on this site (http://www.ferienhof-stuecker.de/index.php?menu=pony) have been performance graded and are proven sires:

- FS Don't Worry ... is called the Donnerhall of the riding ponies! Performance, movement and proven performance sire.
- FS Champion De Luxe
- FS Golden Highlight
- FS Daddy Cool ... up and coming !
- FS Golden Moonlight
- FS Pentagon

Very saleable foals that are snatched up on the continent!

Obviously im biased as we stand them, it depends on what your end product is to be aimed at but we stand the two sports ponies who are both graded and licensed and can be found on this link
