Have you ever employed it? Would you consider using it, and if you have did you find it helpful? I love psychology but wonder if people think it is a gimic as such or too much effort?
I attended a seminar with a sports psychologist and found it very helpful. In reality it was not rocket science but did change my way of thinking and was the kick up the backside I needed. Still refer to my notes occassionally.
This something that really interests me and I feel is very important for some people. I can lack confidence in my own ability and have read books that have certainly helped me focus more on the positive. I would certainly be interested in learning more about it but like everything else I'm a bit out on a limb in Cornwall and struggle to access suitable proffesionals.
Sports psycology was certainly what turned Pippa Funnell around to become as succesful as she did. For those really confident people I don't feel it would be of any use though.
I've used NLP in the form of TFT - really recommend it, it works wonders! On the whole though, even though I am pathetic about SJing I just tell myself not to be such a wuss and to get on with it!!
I would definitely consider using it, I find it fascinating the knots your own mind can tie you in ! How many times do we read about people on here who are not enjoying their riding because of the 'what if' scenarios running through their head. If it worked I think the effort would be worthwhile.
I really do believe it can help in all sports and is something I would like to do more and learn about, would love to be a sports psychologist but wonder how much training etc you require for it?
My friend is training to be a sports psychologist. She's helped me so much this year (I'm highly neurotic at times
!!!)....and its all been free so I'm one very lucky person!! If anyone wants to contact her then PM me as I'm sure she'll be looking for case studies soon. She's specialising in the equine sports side of things and has one of the best in the country as her mentor!!!
