Spot-ons etc

I never understand, except for the revenues, why people are told to put flea treatments on dogs and cats that show no sign of fleas. They are vastly over used, possibly wormers too.

.
Completely agree. For our cats we haven't needed them since I stopped using them many years ago. We get the occasional hedgehog flea and I suspect many people don't know the difference and panic 🙄

I've had my dog for 9years now and have only ever used a wormer and spot on once along with a good bath and that was last summer. She was quite itchy all over which was out of character for her. Other than that she has never shown any signs of fleas or worms so I don't bother. Vet always says for her age (12) she is a picture of health

Yep, and don’t get me started on the vet’s obsession with trying to sell you the stuff every time you have a consultancy even if it’s for something unrelated. Dog has broken toe … vet asks if flea/ wormer up to date … WTF has that got to do with the dogs broken toe !

Only use as and when needed, but have learnt to lie to the vet 😂

I was about to say exactly the same thing, I just brazenly lie to the vet every time I'm in there. I also refuse a lot of unnecessary testing.

I have seen fleas on one of my cats once in my life. Said cat had returned after a long stint running wild god knows where and was skinny and dehydrated. He had a wash in tea tree oil and fleas all went away never to return.

Have to say my vets have been very good about not pushing them in person since I pointed out the risks and lack of need for them. But they know us quite well and I suspect they do still push to other people. We still get the text messages that they're due but I guess that's all part of system and I just ignore them.
