My palomino yearling colt has developed dark spots on his coat. Started off with the odd one or 2 now he has rather a lot.
Im presuming he is a sooty palomino  though want to know how this affects what colours he would throw. Plannning on using him on 2 bay mares next year, one is by a bay out of a dun, the other by a black out of a bay.
here is a pic of his body, he also carries the sabino gene and has some flecking.

I have had three palomino foals, all by the TB stallion Guaranteed Gold. All three have had Bend'Or spots, the colt more than the fillies. GG had one foal with so many, he looked like there must have been an Appy in the woodpile :)

I have a chestnut with those spots, (Plus a white spot in her tail!) her bay daughter has a big discoloration on her neck!!

Colors for foals. He will pass on chestnut to everything, plus dilution to 50%, same with the sabino, depending on if he is double or single gened for it. He does look Rambacino but that in part may be due to camera flash. again if he is 50% chance of passing it on.

Plannning on using him on 2 bay mares next year, one is by a bay out of a dun, the other by a black out of a bay.

Depends on the recessive genes they carry and what passes on. Bay to pally you could get chestnut, smokey black, black, bay, buckskin, pally, so it becomes a real waiting game!!

On a different note, he is only a yearling? So he will be 'covering' at two years old?

Please dont.

Its like asking a fourteen year old boy to chat up and impregnate older women. Just because his bits might work, doesnt mean he should be using them. He could cause serious damage to his hocks and back as well as the huge risk of being kicked because he is still a baby and doesnt know how to communicate with inseason mares. Give him another year!

Agree with this 100%
