Well, S_C, it certainly looks like you have a mandate to go forward with! However, I do think the name is critical so I'm hoping we don't rush into anything - even though it's a work in progress the working title is very influential as it will inevitably dictate people's reactions when they first hear about the idea, and it can be hard to change those initial perceptions once they've been formed.

As someone said on the other thread, BEF is no good as confusing but personally I do think the British bit is important. I also think Riders is important as that is the interest group you plan to represent, but I feel very strongly about steering away from any term like "Grass Roots", "Amateur" etc - these tend to exclude important categories of rider who we want to include. To me, this organisation should be for ALL British riders who want a voice, so certainly not to exclude anybody however grand. In reality, of course, the grandest ones 1) Have a direct line to the top anyway and/or 2) Don't seem that interested, hence the demise of PERA. But I'd like to think we'd be able to embrace riders like, say, Wiggy Skelton and Helen West to name a couple of professional but not truly grand riders. The key point is that if we have also embraced (lotta hugging here

) all the real grass roots riders, they will be swamped by numbers so the organisation's perspective will be truly representative of BE membership in a way that ERA hasn't managed to achieve.

British Eventing Group (BEG! perhaps not...)

Completely agree with you, which is why no hasty emails have been fired off asking the great and the good for advice - it needs a suitably inclusive name which does not make it sound like something which is not appealing to those people who ride at a level I can only dream about (hell, I dream of getting back to Novice right now!).

I have totally drawn a blank on this - my slight concern about including 'british' and 'eventing' in the name is that, well, it makes it sound like something BE have dreamt up, rather than a group which is independant of the powers that be (for now at least) and which aims to influence the way the sport is run.

British Event Riders Forum/Group

Of course we could come up with a snappy two-word name and a tag-line:

Blah Blah - the voice of British event riders.

Can't think of the words though - something eventing-orientated ('flat broke' perhaps?) - 'Start Box' or 'Phase E' (comes after Phase D - bit like the 19th Hole!!) or something similar?

I think all the 'long' titles are a bit cumbersome and unwieldy so rather than trying to convey everything in a name, a tag-line might be easier?

I like British Event Rider Forum - BERF
As we're british (most of us?)
event (well part-timers)
rider (covers ex eventers as)
forum (cos that's how we met)

I think we have to use a professional sounding name to be taken seriously, aswell as the groups aims.

well thats my two pennyworth

I wouldn't limit it to riders, you also have working owner - or is that too much?

How does the Horse Trials Support Group fit into BE?

i think if you called it something like the Eventing Action Group (someone will do better) it would convey a certain dynamic and also would be able to include all interested parties. the more poeople you have in it the more weight you carry tho to be fair the EHOA caters well for owners and several members of that body are in positions of authority. and dont get stuck on british; there are loads of foreign riders based here who are BE members.

TBH owners have EHOA - this was more about riders and giving them a voice and making sure BE understand they do care and are committed to how the sport is run but have limited time and resources to do anything about it. As much as anything it is meant to be a two-way street - so making it really easy for riders to understand what BE wants from them, like voting - what are they being asked to vote on, why and how do they do it. At the moment it is too easy to lose the paperwork and forget all about it....

Sorry, slight subject change here.

Having read the last thread about this (which I think is a very good idea), I am surprised there is so much concern about a possible amateur/pro split. I would have thought that pros would be very anti any kind of split because their owners would lose out. It suits them very well that they can go home with top placings from each section - if they were all together in pro sections their horses wouldn't have anything like as impressive records!

Possible name...

"Eventing Express"

I realise it is stealing it slightly, but we can all climb aboard and express our views.

If I could think of a word beginning with K to finish it off (kindred...?!) we could all join together as "EEK".

Which is silly, but I think I've been working too hard. Need chocolate. Apologies all.

What about just 'Eventers Voice'. Simple and inclusive

How about Rider Representative or something similar - people will know what it does to a certain extent too as we have rider reps at events to take out concerns to....

On another note, I have hopefully sorted out some webspace on a site which is happy to host the group until it gets to the point of having funds to develop its own site.
