My mare has little bumps on her skin, that are small and just like spots, they also have a small scabby head to them? She's had them since she arrived months ago, but now I've just clipped her they look awful. The are mainly on both her sides with a few on her shoulder. Any ideas on what I can do about it? I've tried washing them in hibiscrub which doesn't seem to make any difference.

Sort of related but not, our dog has zits which sounds just the same sort of thing you have described. We don't treat them with anything but just try to stop her from scratching her muzzle and chin.

Thing is they don't seem to bother her at all, she doesn't scratch them that I am aware of. Its just she looks awful, now she's clipped

Have a look at the answers I had to my post - 'Skin bumps' - lots of helpful suggestions and advice.
I always try not to wash a horse too often as this can cause its own problems, but keep numnahs, rugs etc very clean using non-biological hypo-allergenic washing agents.
Also, many horses are over-rugged and so their skins over-heat - horses are outdoor animals, not fireside loungers! Feed lots of hay/fibre to keep them warm from the inside.
Good luck.

my horse also has this, i bought her in november and she still has them??? seem to be going down slightly... ive been told it may be mud rash, but it is all on her left hand side of her body around saddle area....

they are like spots with a white hard scabby top, like small pimples... they are in no way itchy and do not seem to bother her at all altho they are unsightly!

does anyone know what this could be??? will hopefully get photos to let you see what i mean!
