Rode out yesterday had a bit of a canter etc and he was fine. Rode out this morn and half way round ride went to trot and he is unsound. Carried on round in walk as not too bad in walk and we needed to get home!! Checked him over and couldn't see anything, so turned him out. Went to check a couple of hours later and the inside of his front leg had heat in. So I bought him in, hosed for 10 mins and he has since had a cold boot on for the afternoon. I am going to leave him in tonight and call vet in morn, do you think its a sprain, strain? Or a tendon (I so hope its not) , thanks in advance for your opinions, and am I doing right keeping in etc?

ETA: I will bandage both fronts later this eve

yes keep him in, good with the cold but probably get stable bandages on him overnight.
It could be a sprain but definately best to get the vet.
horses, don't you love them!!! born to worry us i think. Hope he's ok.

if there is no swelling and just a little heat it sounds like it could be just where your horse has somehow managed to knock himself, probably while cantering yesterday or even in the field. Hopefully it is nothing more serious. He may well be fine after the cold hosing and keeping him in overnight. Where exactly on the inside of the leg was the heat?

Thanks for both or your replies, sat here worrying myself silly!!

The swelling is sort of, hard to explain, but nearer the fetlock. If you don't feel it you can hardly notice anything. He has always has a promenent (sp) vein, think its a vein, near his fetlock, and this is slighty up, but I suppose that would be if the area is a bit swollen. The swelling is not at the back or front of the leg or outside just inside. Its more like a filled leg after a night in if you get what I mean, sorry for rambling!!
