Sorry never seen it

IMO there is only one way to rid an abcess

Poultice dry and wet
tubbing Epsom salts.

and if bacteria in
metrozene tablets with peroxide and Engemycin spray

one clean and not oozing dry poultice then vets advice to fill with tar or if deep dry cotton wood then dry poultice till foot grows out.

I used a blue spray which you can only get on prescription called cyclo aerosol. It's brilliant stuff which my vets advised to use.

Hydrogen Peroxide - you can get it from your chemist, usually it's behind the counter and they ask you what you are using it for and so long as you don't says bombs or hair dye your fine lol! It only costs about 87p for a small bottle.

thanks for the replies. the abscess has yet to burst, hot poultice applied and tubbing in epsom salts. vets been out and farrier tomorrow but id seen this stuff and thot a good idea once its burst. hopefully farrier will find it tomorow as shes in so much pain. i usually turn out with abscesses but she can hardly walk. its been fun trying tp keep a yearling occupied in a stable!

just a wee update! well im glad shes insured! we have found the abscess at last! farrier came out and dug away, abcess is very deep...in the soft tissue in her foot. its draining well and shes so much happier. the downside is shes lost alot of the hoof wall on the inside of her hoof and shes to be sedated and more hoof dremmeled away so we can get clear the abscess completely. then we will be on box rest for a few weeks and need a plastic shoe and filler until the hoof grows out again. safe to say the most complicated abscess ive had!

Nettex do a range of hoof sprays. I used one with a horse who just could not get rid of the abscess, we tracked it everywhere up and down. The spray nuked it! I've found it a very useful tool alongside running and poulticing. Think it was called hoof puncture plus. Also good if they tried on a shoe clip, I generally spray it with this and haven't had an abscess since getting it whereas usually my horse picks up at least one a month (appalling feet)

I had some blue spray from the vets. I think it was called alamycin (or that was the active ingredient.) It was very good, though I did end up with blue fingers.
