My paddock is being over run with lesser celandine (buttercup like). Please can any spraying experts advise me what to spray it off with. It is smothering the grass and apparently difficult to get rid of. As it's a small paddock I will be using a knapsack or be getting someone with a quad to do it. Thanks in advance.

We use a mix of agritox and depetox - seems to nuke everything bar the grass. Not sure about your exact species but buttercup is usually a symptom of incorrect PH in the gound and lime is better than weedkiller of any kind as it will eventually come back, lime corrects the ph and will get rid of it permenantly.

I limed mine and it made no difference whatsoever to the buttercup population - I suppose it might deter them from colonising but once established, they have underground rhizomes and are really difficult to kill. I sprayed mine with a product containing MCPA and mecaprop last year, I am now waiting to see how many of them are still there. I used that product on the advice of a local agricultural suppliers, they are usually quite helpful if you can find one around you.

ETA I just googled lesser celandine weedkillers and it said MCPA, so you need a product called Spear or any other containing MCPA

Thanks for your replies. I will contact a supplier. Just to confirm they grow buttercup like flowers but have different leaves which are waxy and heart shaped. Lesser celandine, flower earlier than buttercups. The waxy leaves make them harder to get rid of.

Any good garden centre lawn weedkiller will kill this.
it is about spraying it earlier than most weedkillers.
Use SBK or verdone from the garden centre in April/may
Go not dig it up as you will spread the small root globules around the paddock and each one grows.
