As title ^^^

Taking cost out of the equation as I am aware of price difference and at this point it is not a factor, can someone explain to me the differences between these 2 bits and which is better for what purpose?

Ta :)

Tried horse in the team up today and she was much happier in the contact but am wary of NS...

She is currently in a Sprenger 2-type Turnado which she's had from a 4 yo...

But do you know how it compares to the sprenger?

My understanding is that they are both curved anatomically in the same way but differ by the angle of the lozenge and type of metal?

Is this correct?

For those that have used both brands, does the angle of the lozenge make a difference and if so how? Which is better for encouraging the horse to be softer and rounder in the contact? Horse is quite fussy in her mouth and if I make a mess (too much rein aid for example) reacts quite strongly to it, hollowing and throwing her head up/around. She was much better in the team up (more comfortable shape/design) but if I'm going to be spending £££s I want to get it right and explore similar options...

I don't think it is the metal as have a NS loose ring lozenge (can't remember which but not the team up, transangled or verbinend (sp)) and she is no better in that then her sprenger...

I would suggest a Hippus if your horse is sensitive in the contact. I have changed to one recently and found it a revelation for a horse who is very tricky in the contact. I wanted him to take the contact forwards and evenly instead of him acting hysterically every time he was being asked to stay forwards into the bridle and rounder through the contact. I had a break and went back to the french link and he was ok but always felt like he was not true and connected and would avoid the contact at any opportunity.

But Unfortunately they aren't dressage legal and while I will happily spend the £ on a bit that she is happy with it does need to be dressage legal...

they are FEI legal or I certainly would not be using it!

From an old post about them:
i've been told that as they are a single-joint bit with smooth mouthpiece etc they are legal, just as any other single-joint bit is. the FEI never stipulates a make of bit as being legal or otherwise, only general designs. so, impossible to get in writing from FEI that "Hippus" is legal, but the design is fine...
if that makes sense.
lots are being used for affiliated and no problems.

Unfortunately I disagree... They may be FEI legal but I emailed BD around 6 months ago when looking at bits and had a very definite no back :(

So what would be the closest match?

Ginn, I've had a similar problem with Loops. She was in a dynamic D ring for a while, and she always sat very slightly behind it, which only really showed up as we asked more of her. Changed to a myler French link D ring, first wrapped in latex, then weaned off, and she's great in the mouth now, goes in a cavesson, takes the contact forward and has a lovely wet mouth at all times. I wouldn't put her in a loose ring, as too much movement, which ruled out the team up for me. Hippus bits are great, but I think a myler single joint would do a similar job, as has a tiny joint, which is what the Hippus works well be wise its so smooth. Madam has never really take a lozenged bit forward, so Mullen mouth or French links seem to work for her.

Thanks Kat.
Have tried French links (baucher, eggbut and loose ring) and she is if anything worse...
Not tried Myler do will look into them but do they do a loose ring?
She is taking the contact well but I need the play of the loose ring as she can fix - at the moment I need a slight bit of movement all the time, especially on her right rein, as this stops herself holding and tensing and geeting her lighter and softer through her neck, poll and jaw if that makes sense? Would be wary of Mullen mouths for same reason.
Curling behind the bit isn't an issue, if anything we need to get her deeper and rounder through her whole back and neck at this point in her training.

In which case try the kk dynamic, as its got a heavier mouthpiece than the nd, so can give a more positive signal than a lighter mouthpiece. Obviously the fatter team ups weight more, but Im personally a fan of the thinner mouthpieces as they fit well in horses mouths!!

Thanks again Kat. Who'd want a fussy mare eh?! Someone needs to start a service of coming out with a big box of bits for you to try and working with you and horse to find the right on! Trial and error is not a cheap way of doing it and by the time you've tried 6 different bits from the bit bank you may as well have bought one! Thank god for eBay Is all I can say...
