Hi

Is anyone else's horse feeling the spring already???

My horse has turned into a complete tool!

On tues of last week we had a fantastic lesson then i rode on thurs and he spooked at everything - infact spooked at nothing too - at the time it was very windy so i put it down to that.....

so I lunged on friday - didn't do anything on sat as it snowed and kinda made things difficult

then on sunday I rode and again a complete loon.... spooking at thin air! I've only ever ridden at the most every other day...

then yesterday I lunged for 15/20 mins then rode - to make sure that there wasn't something else going on and to burn off some energy - despite me trying to calm him down he still acted like a fool

Once I got him listening to me (which has never been this much trouble) i then got on board at which point he kept whinnying to nothing and completely ignoring me and spooking

now i've changed nothing!

and i'm not looking for advice I guess i just want some reassurance that i'm not the only one with a horse obviously feeling like spring has sprung...

Hmmm...yep all our boys are feeling might spring like at the moment! They were hooning around yesterday ALL day!
According to hubby who is a gardener the grass has definatley started to grow as he's done his first mows!
So we're all in for it now!

Yes another one here absolutely no concentration not too spooky thankfully but def "looking" for something as an excuse to leap around. and he wont eat his haylage so grass must be coming through

My four are all being complete spanners at the moment, including my 28 year old mare who I thought was about to give up the ghost a few weeks ago.

I didn't even dare sit on my four year old yesterday such was his behaviour in the field and my five year old wasn't much better!

Love this terminology, 'tool' and 'spanner' - are they technical terms?

My mare is so forward that Im thinking of putting her on a calmer! Roll on long, sunny days eh!

If George's bucking display yesterday was anything to go by then yep! I rode him today and he wanted to look at everything and really didn't want to concentrate!

I'm glad I'm not the only one

Last night I had to lunge for nearly 30 mins before he was calm enough to just sit on board!!!! and this is after doing something with him every day for the last 4 days (usually I only ride 3 times a week)

All i did was stand in the middle - no lunge whip and tried to calm him down with my voice while he proceeded to ignore me and canter around and around and around - now i hate him doing this because it's not good for him - eventually i got him listening a bit and got on board and walked and trotted around for 5 mins before deciding to stop because he was exhausted and sweaty
