Not much this weekend but looking very much forward to being able to rent a school soon. The youngster (5 in May) has had 5 months off from ridden work (although we did two one month bursts of ground/pole work over the winter) and we are now back on board. He's looking so much stronger and has hit 15hh, so just the right size for me. Looking forward to schooling and little competitions soon. Yay!

Working all day Saturday but I have Sunday off, albeit I have to catch up on a weeks housework and go shopping, so that’s pretty much my one day off written off. I will get Millie hacked out and must try and get back to it with Polly. There’s just not enough hours or days in the week for me at the moment.

The way the wind is picking up I think not a lot this weekend. Which is a shame as I 'm supposed to be practising loading ahead of our trip out on Thursday and a lesson on Sunday. Sunday forecast is 40+MPH winds and I'm so over trying to tough that out. Plus after last weekends hijinks Amber jumped out her field yesterday, she is fine but was absolutely pinging this morning after scoffing lots of nice green summer grass. Urggh can the warmer weather arrive now please? Both horses are ready to do a little more if the weather could just play nice.

B had the vet come and do his teeth yesterday afternoon. Yes he had the dentist at 2.30!!! (tooth hurty!!) we found this far to funny. Fab vet that I've not had come out before but will definitely be able asking for her in the future. She also had a look at the tiny taliban and managed to listen to his heart and lunges, check his man bits and give him his first jab.

This weekend will be hacking for B and a walk out for Robin (aka Tiny Taliban) if my neck/shoulder/arm/hand feels up to it. The trapped nerve is really painful at times so don't want to over do it.

Hope everyone has a good weekend and broken people and ponies make improvements.

Today is Jump club! Formed by me and another livery who is nervous of jumping, each week we jump and pick a different thing to work on, first was height, last week width and today is a mini course :) even more exciting is that jump club will get it's first outing next week!! I'm so excited to be able to go out again. We've got an SJ/XC arena hired. Hope the weather holds up!

Monday is the exciting day when normal life resumes. Tomorrow the Shetland gets her first adventure hacking over the hill. I am hoping she will just follow. At the moment she is undergoing desensitisation for clipping as petrified of it. Weirdly it’s a lot harder on a little critter than a very big one. I think people end up manhandling shetlands and this tips their behaviour over the edge. Interesting from a training perspective for me as always trying to improve my skills in this.
The big ones will hack and be schooled and then next week have competitions, xc and Sj schooling. Excited to get out.

Obviously the imminent end of lockdown has caused my older horse to decide to start self harming as much as he can. Currently battling with a wound on the inside of his coronet band in which he managed to slice a bit of hoof wall upwards into the coronet band. Farrier has tidied it up, but there were hints of a touch of infection which I think I'm getting on top of (fingers crossed). So he is wrapped up in cotton wool in his box. Think we'll manage to hack during the weekend, but sticking to roads where i'm not potentially adding more mud and bugs into the wound.... meant to be having a XC lesson on Thursday with our first BE outing at Breckenbrough the weekend of the 10th/11th - so it is all a bit touch and go and beautifully timed on his part.

Young lad will do a touch of hacking on Saturday and then we'll go and mess around with poles and few baby sized jumps in the jump arena on Sunday. He is currently showing incredible talent for being a happy hacker, but the jumping concept is not quite installed. We have time though, so just messing around and playing with all of the ideas in a really low pressure way at the moment.

My weekend got off to an exciting start as I braved a bit of trot on the mule in the arena- she has trotted out hacking but there she has a direction and a purpose whereas so far in the arena she struggles to see the point and considers steering an optional extra

Hope all the sick note horses sort themaelvrs out soon!

I also have the once a week jumping club at the yard (but I now feel like we need a catchy name!) but today was 'slightly outside comfort zone day'.

Horse was a super star and I had fun! Spreads I hate and this was off a tight turn (also hate) and just over a meter (20cms higher than my like to jump height) but we were flying at the end.

Long hack tomorrow and a flat lesson booked for Tuesday for the 1st time in ages. We have improved over winter so really excited for that.

I didn’t have a clear plan for this weekend, except for that I wanted to avoid the worst of the weather! M will having tomorrow off as we’re forecast 50mph winds and I don’t fancy being taken out by a tree.

We schooled today, I was planning to work on her being off the leg but she got tight and anxious - not out of the ordinary for M when we work on things like this - so instead we worked on relaxing and stretching down while staying in front of the leg ;). I was rewarded with the most incredible adjustable trot we’ve ever had, and felt for the first time that I could actually control how ‘up’ the head and neck were.

There were some poles left in the school and every time she was pointed at them all semblance of steering and speed control went right out of the window, so for the next few weeks I’m just going to randomly distribute poles around the school. I’m dying to give her a jump but will hold off until we can get over poles :p

Hope Toby is home safe now, bit of a blustery start to the day but the weather settled and we got out for a hack - took his owners daughter with me on her pony too. Hes still recovering from his leahurst visit and asthma issues, but he's managed walk trot and canter today - albeit short bursts, both good boys apart from the little hairy one taking every opportunity to try and eat the grass ?Screenshot_20210327-204921_Gallery.jpg20210327_204904.jpg20210327_205403.jpg

What a weekend! Henry and I had a brilliant lesson on Friday, we both needed a bit of a tune up as we have both lost some fitness and strength. However other than a few strength related things he feels just as he did when he first hurt himself and watching the video back shows how good he is looking. Coolie had a good jump at home too, just need to remember to ride more forward and establish a forward canter early.

Riding 2 horses on a day on Friday miiiight have meant I over did it so Saturday was spent not riding (but also not resting...). Was meant to give Coolie a bath too but that didn't happen so he was filthy for today. So hairy and dusty!

Today Coolie and I went show jumping at a local pony club. I had originally entered Henry but he was not ready to go at all so I swapped to Mr Reliable. My plan was to treat it like training, though I planned on riding my jump offs competitively but still looking to improve if that makes sense. I wanted to train the jump offs.

I didn't do enough in my first warm up so our first round wasn't as smooth as it could be, he was just a touch unsettled. He jumped clear and was pretty speedy in the jump off. I kept him settled and smooth and our round was really lovely other than one moment when I half halted too close to the jump and Coolie and I both knew it. We landed and Coolie put in an extra leap on landing to tell me to pull my self together and ride properly! Sorry buddy!

It was getting very hot by the second round so I kept things short before we went in. I wanted to smooth things out and set a good forward pace from the start. Coolie is ever the professional and so went in and gave me a perfect ride, improving on the first. We were forward, had good lines and jumped clear. I started the jump off a little slow, wanting to angle the first fence but being unsure of the line before we get there I was a little slow to start. We picked up the pace and Coolie was brilliant, right where he needed to be.

We were 2nd in the first round but I have no idea about the second, we went home before the results were posted. Hopefully 1st or 2nd again! Coolie is going from strength to strength right now and every competition is better than the last. He is so much more consistent and I feel our partnership is better than ever. He feels right there for me every step of the way and it's a really cool feeling.

Had a busy weekend! Went out with a friend yesterday to view a horse for her, little 2 year old anglo filly (chestnut no less!). She's a cutie and will hopefully be coming to live next door depending on a few things. So happy for her because she sadly had to PTS her Arab she had for 16 years late last year after a 3 year battle with laminitis. She deserves something nice to play with.

Today L and I went out to our first dressage outing for the year. Also our first official (affiliated) preliminary start, I had her officially registered last year so we were good to go! Lead up wasn't great, it rained for about 5 days solid with little chance to ride. I thought she was quite behind the leg in the prelim test and it was in the worst arena (next to a bike path, L hates bikes!). However we came away with 65% and fifth place behind some lovely WB and GRPs so my little scruffy Haflinger held her own!

The Novice was next and I warmed up with The Whip. Felt much more forward and although she was against the hand a little, forward was my goal after this morning. We came away with 63% and second place, which is an improvement on last novice start so smiles all around. I haven't done many dressage tests so really need to become a better test rider. Have to go sniff out some more events I think. L was rewarded with an afternoon at grass, she really is a cool pony!

No pictures from today yet, so I'll leave you with an amusing picture of the pony matching the double rainbows (the last of the rain for the moment hopefully!).

A mini hack then a school for Bog today. He feels so good, it’s ironic he’s the most broken he has ever have been and feels better than ever! He’s never going to have a particularly powerful back end but he’s really rhythmical, adjustable and just general very pleasant to school at the mo.

Turns out pigs can fly.

Fig is being a good lad, enjoying his bursts of ridden work:

That’s when he’s not doing this of course...

He is booked in for cartrophen in a few weeks. Conscious his hocks aren’t medicated anymore and think he will benefit hugely!

So exciting that things are opening up again. I have a lesson at RS on Tuesday - I've not ridden for nearly two months so feeling very up for this. It's been hard on the sunnier days where I wished I could go for a hack! Really hoping going back to RS will help me get back into things; my confidence is so low and I've even wondered if I should be riding at all but hopefully it's a case of getting back in my comfort zone before branching out again. Watching ex share horse being ridden in a lesson today confirmed for me that I made the right choice - his new sharer is a confident teenager and they seem to make a good team.
