Am I mad - or is the spring grass already coming throgh in SE England? My lovely, normally kind and considerate horse (who is very sensitive to molasses in his feed - so needs molasses free diet) is suddenly full of the joys of spring and all those behaviours I would rather not have to deal with. Does anybody have good experience with magnesium calmers - or did we just have a bad weekend? This is our first spring together - so all help very greatfully received.

I read a few people mentioning the new grass down south over the weekend so it must be true - not so lucky up here in the north - will have to wait another month - however I think spring fever has got into all the animals at the moment!!!

No, you're not going mad, the grass is growing here too and I've never seen it happen as early as this! So much so that I had to move the two ponies off their big field at the weekend. Didn't expect to have to do that til mid-end April.

I'm pleased to hear I'm not going mad - and for those of you in the North - you'd probably be pleased to hear even we had hail in Essex today - despite the spring grass! But what can I do with my totally over excited boy? He's out half days (until the start of summer grazing - when he's out all day), and exercised at least 1 hr per day, and has come out of winter in good condition (but not overweight), but suddenly totally hyper-excitable

Yes, grass is coming through where we are although the cold weather forecast for the rest of the week may halt it for a while.

Noticed on Saturday that there was a lot of green poo in the stable!
