Can someone post a photo for me if I send it to them pretty please?
Well Ellie Belly (as she has lately been known as she was huge), was known to be in pup, first litter and all has so far gone well and 8 little bundles arrived between 6.30 and 10 Friday evening.
Evenly sized, well marked and 4 of each-how lucky is that?
She has so far been a fantastic mum and this afternoon some pups were sound asleep on their backs so must have full bellies and be warm enough.
She is usually such a live wire but seems very content in her new role.

Sorry, I went to bed in between times!

Sire and dam;

This is giving me proper puppy envy!

The parents are beautiful. I love the bitch's face and expression. The pups look incredibly even, so pretty.
I see they are not docked - will that not limit your sale market, or as they work more in open country in Scotland does it not matter so much?
I hope you are still loving it up there.

They are a very even litter and she is super mum, the pups are now quiet when she leaves for a brief wander round the garden, but squeak when she goes back in and pushes them about to get comfy.
I see far less docked dogs up here, the sire works and is not docked.
The owner is a scottish ex keeper with a gun licence and won't dock and there seems to be less issue with it from what I have seen. I suppose it could be down to less undergrowth as it is so much more open here your right Clodagh.

So pretty!

My springer is a mad little thing but very easy to live with - though she is a colour anomaly...comes from 2 liver/white parents but whole litter was black/white except for one liver/white bitch!! To me thats genetically impossible but breeder is a friend and he assures me sire is only dog that got near the dam

Depends on colour genetics of more than just the parents, we were expecting some black and white despite both parents being liver and white, both parents have black and white in their parentage. They are all liver and white though.

Because liver is a recessive gene, to "be" liver a dog must carry two copies of it and will always pass 1 copy to their offspring - if you have 2 liver parents it should be genetically impossible for pups to be anything other than liver, regardless of rest of pedigree.

Will be colour testing my bitch to see what's there!

Well I have learnt something there, good job colour of the litter was not important.
Interesting with your dog then, what do you think is going on?

I genuinely have no clue - if breeder wasnt a friend I would be convinced that another dog had got to the bitch! But she never leaves his side and if she does shes in her kennel/his van. So the likelihood of a purebred black&white springer having got to her through the kennel overnight, and her having taken to him and not the liver&white stud dog, is slim to none haha.

Also if I'd not seen the stud dog in the flesh I may suggest the owner had his colour wrong, but nope he's definitely a liver dog.

I really am stumped on this one - a friend of mine is a geneticist and said she will await the colour testing with baited breath but I wont convince her unless I have DNA done too 😂

But I have possibly one of the prettiest springer bitches Ive met in the flesh, so whatever is going on the genes produced a stunning looking animal!

A brief update.
All the pups have made it so far, they look well and have full tummies, they are relaxed, content and sleeping when mum is not about, they are also being handled daily.
The four puppies with more colour on them are all dogs and the 4 with more white are bitches. None if them stand out as being significantly smaller than the rest but the biggest is currently a bitch.
Their dam is looking good too and has not lost any weight despite feeding 8 rapidly growing pups. She is being fed multiple tines per day and is out for a walk once daily, a Potter about a few tines per day and a bit of time indoors daily too.
Once mum is 100% happy with the 2 house dogs being around the puppies then they will start spending more nd more time indoors each day too, I want them to experience all the normal household things and ti start house training.
They are little bundles of cuteness that waste a huge amount if each day and the hard work for me has not even begun.

You posted without PICTURES!!!!!!![/QUOTE

That's because I am still having trouble with photo bucket, grr its driving me to distraction.

I have just been out for puppy cuddles and 6 of them have their eyes either open or opening, so cute peering out at their surroundings (or what they can see of it) for the first time with little frowns on their brows.

Oh congrats! They are a beautiful litter - no wonder looking at their lovely parents. Best of luck with them. Will you be keeping one?
