My horse came with a Springtree saddle in good condition. It ca,me in loan but his owner now needs payment. She wants £400. Does this sound reasonable?

Depends what make the saddle is... weather its english leather or forien.. the quality of the saddle.. the conditon of the saddle

My horse eight years ago needed a saddle and we got a slightly used spring tree saddle and that cost £400. It is a beautiful hunting saddle and he is still using it eight years later day in day out.
Ours was made by Towe, is yours actually made by 'Springtree'? or is that just the makeup of it, if the latter what make is it?

If you haven't already I would be tempted to get a saddler out to double check it before parting with your cash and ask them honestly what they think it is worth, rather then a what they would give you for it price.
