Sprinter Sacre Gofundme

Honestly I don't understand this mentality that seems to have permeated the horse world lately, of having your cake and eating it ....whereby people want luxury items (horses) yet think others should pay the fees. It beggars belief.

ETA not to mention in the scheme of equine vet bills £5k isn't very much at all. Makes you wonder where the winnings have gone.

Tbh I think given how much he has won its a P take, he is 19 years old now so would you in all honesty put him through anything invasive.
He has a sequestrum apparently, I had a retired horse who got kicked in the field, his sequestrum reabsorbed eventually but he had weeks of antibiotics, extensive bandaging and ultrasound. Obviously I just paid for it rather than sponging . I was told that it may be possible for mine to be done under standing sedation which I would have been OK with but not if GA required.

I really cannot understand the facts behind this….Do the same people who owned him during his racing career still own him or was he given to someone else, and it’s this owner who cannot afford the fees?

His wealthy owners obviously can afford the fees but have declined to pay, why should they when the horse was popular and they can cover their costs by begging / sponging.

Comment on the FB page (from his current owner I guess as it's the FB page name) in response to asking what he needs 'A Sequestrum due to an injury on the splint bone. It needs surgical removal'

I hope he gets to continue his retirement and can make a full recovery, but there must be plenty of people associated with racing, especially those involved with his career/owners, who could chip in a fair amount

Also while its good the money will be donated to charity if theres an excess not keen on the idea of it being a jockey related one, surely one for ex racers would be more ethical, especially as ones like the IJF get way more donations/publicity

Agree with @luckyoldme GFM seems to be the answer for everything now

Extremely murky.

Over £3k raised so far but it seems that both the former trainer and former owner have, far from refusing to pay, asked to be kept in the loop re the proposed vet procedures after only just being informed about this. It seems they got very little notice of all this before the GoFundMe went up.

I’m no fan of racing but there is a selective amount of information being put up by the GFM.

As said by others, of course you can insure ex racers for vets fees just as you can insure other horses.

I’d given up reading… that’s poor. I’ve always followed and enjoyed his fb page, I’ll never forget him racing. I gave up reading last night. Keep me updated please.

Comments are turned off as it was becoming a ‘slanging match’, apparently.

Well, when you’ve repeatedly posted that the former trainer and the former owner are both refusing to help with the vet bills then expect to be called out if that is not as it seems.
But did the now owner say that, or did that grow from the “why aren’t the rich owners and former trainer paying” comments….
