Sprinter Sacre Gofundme

But did the now owner say that, or did that grow from the “why aren’t the rich owners and former trainer paying” comments….
The owner was repeatedly asked about whether the former owner and trainer would help and replied every time with a cut and paste stock answer that no help was forthcoming from either.

Comments have now all been pulled so I can’t show a screenshot, but that is what was happening.

Then people within the industry who know both the owner and the trainer started calling this out in the comments.

I have no axe to grind re racing personalities as I do not support racing, but I detest grifters.

I imagine the vets were requesting a payment up front upon admitting the horse, the cash wasn’t going to come that quickly from the people that used to be responsible for the horse (quite rightly IMO without them talking to the vets etc and getting a full handle on the situation and the likely prognosis etc for an old horse), so she panicked and put up a GFM. I'm hoping it was just ill thought through, rather than anything worse. The horse should be insured if she can’t afford the large payment. But you live and learn.

It looks like exactly that. I do think it must be difficult with such a high profile horse as if you run into such a situation deciding to PTS will turn into a national conversation in addition to all the normal heartbreak ....

I'm starting to think that if you own a horse it should be mandatory to have insurance, like cars. I dread to think the amount of horses (and animals in general) who suffer because people can't, won't or don't pay for the vet.
That’s not going to work, I’m hoping that behind the scenes people are talking to each other and Sprinter gets a new home with people who can pay the bills. That seems like the best outcome to this sorry situation.

You'd be amazed…. My OH is a OOH emergency specialist vet and the number of people who can’t afford the visit, or if they can, cannot afford referral is alarming. He absolutely hates having to PTS horses that he knows could easily be saved with the appropriate treatment, but at least there is no suffering in that

Matt Chapman has just put out a statement saying SS is now at Nicky Hendersons vet and the bill is being covered by him, the previous owner is involved

Sprinter Sacre/Gofundme update. Essentially current owners were in a panic. A week ago he got a knock on his inside splint bone. Would have healed on its own. But he is at
@sevenbarrows
vet and all bills being paid for by Hendo. Two little pieces of bone being removed
🙏
🏇

too.

Perfect ending and what I imagined was happening

What a shambles. As well as the comments from Matt C, there have been comments from NH and his wife both stating that this has all been taken care of their end. I dont know what his current minder was thinking but it is bad to imply that they don't care. Think NH has enough on his plate this week without his name being dragged through the mud. I was about to donate today too. Wonder what will happen to the money now? I like to think the best in people and perhaps she was genuinely panicking and had nowhere to turn to. Hope they can fix him.

Reading the RP article it says that SS will 'return to his stable' after the procedure. Sounds like he's going back to the person who started the gofundme. I'd question if that is the right place after this launching of a begging bowl when NH says he'd already arranged to pay for the treatment/op personally.

Would be interested to know if this is the home he was originally with after retirement. I recall seeing FB updates with him attending events and such with what seemed a genuinely caring new owner. Has he been passed on again does anyone know? If not, Im genuinely surprised at this turn of events. I would also think that as his age and if fully retired, ie field ornament..maybe a dignified end would be better. That said, now NH is covering all costs with his own vet team, one would like to think they are doing the best and most sensible thing for the horse

He's still in original retirement home. He is ridden daily. All's well that ends well.

But NH has said he was not aware of the situation until yesterday, then arranged to pay…
There is so much unfortunate misinformation on this thread….

Too many exclusions on a lot of insurance policies.

We paid £1 for our ex racer and I dread to think how many thousands have been spent on vet fees, but a lot. Where there's animals there's muck.... And a black hole for money to disappear into 😂 it doesn't matter how much an animal has won anyway, it's no more or less deserving of good care than a beach donkey and when you own an animal it's your job to pay for the vet when needed just as you'd pay for farriery and hay.
I feel a bit sorry for NH if he's been getting hate for not paying when the horse was never actually his, just stabled with him. Bit like having a go at an old RS owner for not paying the vet bills of a former working livery pony.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased for the horse and the veterinary staff someone has stepped up and agreed to pay but just.... Animal ownership is optional, folks. Don't do it if you can't afford it, included the 'unexpected' bills.

ETA sorry, just cannot stand grifters
