What an awesome and wonderful horse. I hate watching him run, I am peterifed something awful will happen. How do his connections cope?
Wouldn't it just be the best if he won the Champion Chase again, unlikely perhaps but I can dream.

If Un De Sceaux stays on his feet I think he will probably win the Champion Chase... but he fell for the 2nd time in his career today, Sprinter has never fallen. Who else is there in that class? Sire de Grugy, Sprinter beat him today, and Dodging Bullets who has been off injured. I think Sprinter winning another Champion Chase is certainly within the realms of possibility.

Sire De Grugy all the way for me! If he had jumped the last as well as SS he would have won.

Never been a fan of SS - sorry! Think he is over rated compared to other 2milers of the last decade.

I was rather annoyed that he was included in Racing Posts top 10jumpers as I can think of half a dozen more that deserved to be there instead of him.

Soz!

On todays run I dont think he can! The novice chase over the same distance was run quicker. Having said that he was a lot more controllable today. Maybe he remembered what happened before but he was a lot more his old self last time out! He won but that sparkle wasnt there again.

Surely jumping well is part of winning! I have been in racing for many years and you need to really wrack your brain to remember any horse with the talent and looks of SS. At his best no others would beat him.

EKW - leave my thread now! (joking) Sprinter is an awesome horse, his jumping is amazing. Sire de Grugy wouldn't have won the Tingle Creek if he hadn't taken out Special Tiara mid air. I do like a white faced chestnut though.
I love Ah Mad, he is amazing. (I know he is bay, but he has a Kauto blaze, as does Faugheen).

Off topic but what is wrong with the Nicholl's horses? He couldn't win a Donkey Derby at the moment.

Yes jumping is of course a part of winning but my heart will always be with SDG and his family over the Henderson factory.

Nicholl's - who knows! He always hits a quiet few weeks but that is normally towards the end of January not over the Xmas period.

I know the Moores well I remember pushing Jamie around in a push chair but I still cannot put SDG above SS All I know is Charlie (moore ) would be very proud of the lot of them!

I agree and I happen to think if SDG hadnt hit the last he would have won as for being lucky to beat Special Tiara he was as much inconvenienced by that last fence mid air collision as ST.

As for Paul Nicholls he usually vaxes his horses in January, a lot of his horses just arent seeing out their races and being pu which is a very rare occurrence for his horses.

Would it not be fair to say SDG jumping goes to pot when under pressure? I really like the horse, don't get me wrong, and the Moores seem like a really nice family but Sprinter Sacre is something else.

A really good jump at the last by SDG would have made the result closer, but I'm not sure Sprinter Sacre would have been beaten today.

Thinking back to the Tingle Creek Chase, I hadn't remembered that Kauto Star had won it twice. The pundits always say that the mark of a truly great champion horse is that they can win at different distances, which is exactly what Kauto Star did. How many of the ones we saw over the last weekend will have his record?

That is very true. A truly great champion will go over any distance on pretty much any ground which is why King Kauto stood head and shoulders above the rest.

I was thrilled for SS, I think he's a super horse - although Nico didn't look too chuffed in his interview did he? Was it just me, but he was a bit off, there weren't many smiles!

I feel bad for the Ditcheat team ( and I'm not usually a massive Nicholls fan) - their horses look so well, and I think Sam TW is riding beautifully, it just doesn't seem to be happening for them.

And - and this might be controversial as they are running well - but IMHO Willie Mullin's horses look a bit dull and a bit too lean to me, there's not much sparkle there when compared to how well the Seven Barrows and Ditcheat strings look. Faugheen had rug rubs on his shoulders, give the horse a properly fitting rug! I know they are winning, so really it means nothing as they're running so well, but I love how sleek and shiney most NH horses looked over the weekend, and I thought the Mullins string looked a bit dull...sorry!!

Mullin's horses always have rug rubs. I imagine he doesn't see the point in wasting money on new rugs! I like the way he leaves their loins on, like Venetia Williams, it doesn't look as good as clipped out but must help keep them warm down at the start.
No Nico was a bit down, but he rarely does excited, does he?
Did you see the state of Cue Cards' sheepskin noseband? Colin Tizzard is first and foremost a farmer, and like us he probably hasn't had his SFP yet. :-)
Do you read Harry Dereham's blog? I don't but he was quoted by the Racing Post, saying they have no idea why the horses are below par.

I guess it goes to show that even the best racehorses in the world don't rely on well fitting rugs to win races!

.

I did notice it had seen better days! That's one of the things I love about Colin Tizzard, he's a dairy farmer who trains, and not the other way round!

The irish horses didnt have the best trip over however I dont think you can say they look lean. Both his top ones at Kempton where criticised last time out for looking like bullocks. You have to remember Kempton is merely a stepping stone for March.

As for SS he won the race however I picked up on the same vibes as you did after the race neither Nico,NH or the owner were exactly bouncing with christmas cheer. It wasnt an impressive win and the second didnt run to his best. SS looked well enough but had lost his swagger again! SS at his best would have had that sewn up coming off the bend! I did just wonder though if he had been run like that as an experiment.

I thought they looked fab last season personally - Quevega especially! Perhaps lean was the wrong word, I thought they looked hard fit, without much extra there - but they're winning and running fantastically. It must be a a tricky thing to keep horses fit and well throughout a long season, peaking at the right time.

Vautore was 20kg lighter than previous race and Faugheen !5kg Im not sure but a lot of hoses are shedding already so maybe thats why they look a little dull.
