We lost our old English Springer at Easter. He was a wonderful dog, but had numerous health problems over the years. Someone locally is advertising Springer x Cocker pups. I was wondering whether they might be hardier than pure-breds - or do you just get a mix of spaniel health problems?

Sorry to hear you lost your old dog. What health problems did he have? I always think that working bred spaniels are much healthier than show bred ones although I notice hip displasia does seem to more prevelant. Sprockers are quite common round here but I don't know of any particular health problems with either breed.

We've got 3 working springers and they are tough little dogs. Sprockers are much the same and I haven't heard of anyone who has these dogs getting any problems.

We have a 3 year old sprocker from working stock and touch wood he has been fine. No problems apart from an infected bit when one of the others bit him as a puppy. Passed as being in good working order by the vet after we got him as a puppy.

He's also pretty calm and laid back, which is quite a bonus!
