I do on mine, sometimes for dressage when i need more impulsion, and always xc as he tends to back off fences, and i need more than my leg to remind him i'm there as he doesn't always listen.
I tried them on my horse to make her more forward but it just made her more backward, it was horrible! However my old horse used to move off them really well, so depends on the individual.
Depends totally on the horse, what else I had tried & how secure a lower leg I had.

agree with above
I use them on mine(now and again i took them off)! However,we are now getting to the point were he is actually respecting my leg,has taken a long time, but he is such a lazy piglet and would rather you work than him
...sooo the time is looming when i will take them off altogether and just use them to remind him i still have them, lol!!!
Bog standard horse used a few times a few? Nope I'd get it fit first and then see. Personal opinion is most horses don't need a spur dug in their side but a rider with a decent set of pins
