when would you consider using spurs? Are they dressage lega;? Also, on the Prince of Wales spurs, there are differant sorts/sizes in mm. What is the difference? and are they actually 'cruel' or is that just people stirring up?

thank you.

I nearly always ride in spurs these days, the measurement in mm is the length of the neck, actual spur bit. On legality it depends on what you are doing and what level.

also, what are the differances in prince of wales, and rounded edges? any advice welcome.

i just use the standard pow spurs, they tend to come in standard length-cant remember what that is now, but pow spurs generally come in one main size which is around an inch long or so. rounded edges are blunter and have a wider suface area, flat edged ones give a more definate effect if you see what i mean. I ride my 4yr old in flat edged ones, purely because i have very short legs and find the spurs give my horse a clearer aid so he understands exactly what i am asking, plus it gives me a little bit of back up as he can be a bit lazy at times and dont want to keep flicking with the whip. The main thing to remember with spurs is that if fitted correctly, they shouldnt touch the horses sides unless you turn your heel inwards. for example, if i kick around 3 times, only onje of those i might give a nudge with the spur as back up but not everytime as it wont have much effect for long otherwise!
