Spurs?

Yet another question from me...

How important is the having the correct size of spur, and how can you tell what is the correct size? You see I'm using an old pair to school my pony, but have just bought a ladies 2cm pair, they seem a little bigger than the ones I use to school my pony- will it be alright or should I find another pair?

The answer to this is going to depend entirely on the shape and size of your pony and the length of your leg.
The longer the spur ,the less movement you have to make with your foot ,to bring it into contact,also you shouldnt have to bring your heal up to use a spur.
So if you are long legged or on a small horse or one whose flanks are very tapered,a longer spur is a great advantage.
The problems start when you jump rather than doing flat work.You dont want to be accidentaly using the spur when all you wanted to do was give your horse a reassuring kick.
Shorter spurs will be much safer,especially as you will be riding shorter.
One final point, there is no right or wrong way up with spurs,they are there to do a job,not as a fashion accessory.
wear them as best suits you and your horse.
