My 13 year old TB gelding has completely squared off his hind shoes and feet in 3 weeks of been shod. He is a box walker and has been known to drag his feet but usually we get new shoes every other farrier visit (then trim and replace existing shoes on other times) but we have destroyed these in just 3 weeks!! The front of the shoe and foot are completely flat across. As mentioned he is a box walker but deep littered on Straw with rubber matting underneath and hasn't been ridden in over a week so his shoes shouldn't be worn!! I have noticed he has been bucking more lately. As a head shaker it is starting his head shaking season before but nothing seems to be out of the ordinary with that and he doesn't appear in distress. Has anyone any ideas as to what could be wrong, if anything, or is it normal????????

Have you had his back checked out? and also the saddle? sometimes if they have a sore back/sacroiliac , it can result in them dragging their toes- I'd also speak with the Farrier to see if theres anything else they can do- maybe they can fit a different type of shoe ie rolled toe or something and also check the foot balance is ok.

Failing that, and it still continues I'd ask the Vet to check him over for peace of mind!

sometimes though, its nothing to worry about! Good luck.
