I bought a bundle of stirrup irons and bits at an agricultural car boot type sale a few years ago, and in it were two side saddle stirrups. They must be fairly old as they are made of nickle. Would anyone use them (I was always told not to use nickle irons) and are they worth anything?

Us side saddle peeps tend not to use the old irons as they are often very narrow and then there is the nickle thing but we all tend to collect side side related "stuff" for decoration.

Some side saddle riders collect really old side saddles (I'd like to do this but my OH says NO MORE saddles in the house!) that are unrideable but they like to match them up with period irons for display purposes too.

They aren't worth as much a stainless steel ss iron that you can ride in but they do appeal as collector's items to us.

I think someone would buy them on ebay. I've seen some go for quite a lot, but am no way an expert & don't know what they were made from. I have an old nickel one too & am planning to put it on there one day.

Are there any of the fittings with the irons? Some, like Owen, are hard to find, and worth advertising, the actaul stirrup, if 'alone', probably not worth a fortune.
