I notice they have a 3500kgs towing capacity and look quite nice.

We were thinking we'd have a Discovery next but possibly only Y/51 plate. Problem is, most of the ones we've nosed at have already got more mileage than our Maverick (102k). Puts us off when we consider that the Maverick has started to fall apart since hitting 100,000 miles and is now pretty much only going to go for scrap. Shame really as it's immaculate inside and out and the engine is in excellent condition, with a new clutch. It's just a new gear box is going to cost more to buy and fit than the Maverick is worth.

Hi There,
Haven't towed with one but it was one that I considered when buying due to the towing capacity. They are quite good value for money, and the fuel consumption isn't bad. Have a friend who bought one (not for towing) and loved it. I read a lot of reviews when I was looking & they are apparently great to tow with. I ended up with a Kia Sorento (2800kg capacity) which is also great to tow with.

Am told they're fab for towing with and good cars but very cheaply made so not great for not falling apart!!

Don't go there Patches! My OH borrowed one for a week from a motoring correspondent friend who had it on test and he loathed it. He called it the "Rectum"! It was cheap, nasty and wallowed round corners.

Thanks for that!!!!

I've struck it off the list. Was impressed with it's towing capacity initially.

Looks like we'll be having a Discovery. Problem is, I've never really liked to drive them. In comparison to our Maverick they feel like a tank and under-powered somehow.

I've recently looked a the kia sorrento so was interesting that you've towed with it. I'm needing to change my clio and eventually want a trailer so seemed daft buying a car now and then needing a 4x4 in a few months time.

The diesel sounds awful! A neighbour has one and they sound louder than a Range Rover.

The new discovery's are meant to be much better though aren't they?

Def cross rexton off list

I won't be buying a new one though. Been told to steer clear of the Td5 as well as they suffered a few niggling mechanical problems. Guess we'll be looking at X/Y/51 plate vehicles with a limited budget of about £10k.

Value for money wise that is your best bet. The older models tend to fair well and for £10,000 you would be able to get a very decent one that doesn't look its age.

We have one of those, Nissan Terrano? It's the same as the Maverick we have but we also have a SWB Terrano as well.

Been a put off though now as ours has only just clocked 100,000 miles (which for a diesel engine isn't alot) and we've had a new clutch (£650), Complete braking system (£500), Brake pipes and welding for MOT (£275) and bushes along rear axle (£365) since January. Now our gearbox is going which would be another £800 to fix.
