Hi, Hoping to help out a friend. She has had her horses and ponies at a yard for the past 20 odd years. However unfortuneatly the farmer recently died and his son has now taken over. The new farmer apparently has been having an affair with one of the liveries and it has led to a lot of arguements. At the weekend a rather nasty arguement led to the police being called and people being arrested. My friend refused to get involved or be witness to anyone including the new farmer so he has told her she has to leave!
My friend just simply doesn't want to get involved it is not her arguement to be had, They are all as bad as each other. All she wants is to look after her horses.
Her horses are her life.
So my question is this. Does anyone know of any grazing preferably with stables in the Hatfield area? Any where in Herts will be considered but as close to Hatfield as possible. She really needs stables too as some of her horses are elderly and have health issues, such as laminitis.
We have driven around the past few days trying to find something but nothing so far. If anyone knows of anything or anywhere we can try please please get in touch.
Thanks for reading.

Sorry, not my area so of little use on that front, but having moved a number of horses before (eight between Friend and I), I know how difficult it can be!

We have found places by doing the drive round, ring saddler's, farmers, general landowners. Try companies such as the National Trust and the Coal Authority, they often have land and buildings to rent. Also, put the word out with your farrier, vet, dentist, riding club, physio, etc. as they are well placed to hear of spaces/opportunities.

Also, if stuck, if your friend can get some land, get a couple of moveable shelters and use those as stables as and when needed. If that's not feasible, use electric fencing to make small paddocks for this that need it. We have done the latter with our lami pony and fatty cob to good effect.

Fingers crossed something comes up soon!

I agree with Mrs M. Pick the brains of anyone and everyone you know and even those you don't know.
Stop at farms, riding schools, private fields. Often people know someone in their area.
I found my current place because I needed a wee!! Stopped at the riding school to use their facilities and decided to pick their brains knowing they only took on working livery. However they straight away offered me 3.5 acres to do with as I wish and use of all school facilities. They even came and transported us (and refused payment for that).
We are now very happy with our new home.
If I hadn't needed a wee I would never have gone there!!

There was a yard of about 8 boxes advertised on the Titmuss noticeboard a few weeks ago. Think it was in Potters Bar or somewhere like that which isn't too far from hatfield - about 10 - 15 mins.

Look at titmuss and also Martin Wilkinson at Coursers Farm... also just driving round some of the lanes you may find somewhere ;). There are lots of big houses with land attached around this way.

I agree, ask in some of the bigger houses as many have land/stables which they used when their children were young and now are empty and most people dont mind renting grazing for the summer at least. Put some notices/flyers on boards and through letterboxes. Best of luck.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies. I think we may have found somewhere today. It's a livery but they are willing to give my friend a discount on rent for having so many. Has facilities there so think she will be going for that even if it's just until she can find her own yard.
She is so distraught over all this she is talking about selling her house so she can buy land for her horses and she will live in a caravan! It's hard enough with one horse let alone 9 especially seen as most people seem to have nearly doubled their rent in the last couple of years.

If anyone needs just grazing Hatfield estates apparently has some available, it is near the travellers though.

Thanks for your help.
