Right, I know a lot can go wrong with putting stable bandages on...

My horse is 3/10 lame only trot, you wouldn't think there was anything wrong in walk, had farrier check him, found nothing. Had vet up and she said he was 3/10 lame only trot, no heat or obvious swelling, she thinks it's most likely in the fetlock area and probably been done in the field (there are a few wounded at the yard, fields are rubbish!) so he has been perscribed 14 days box rest with bute and will see what he's like on the 14th. She also said to stable bandage him for 23 hours a day, obviously cold hosing as well for 10 minutes a day.

Now, I am unable to get to the yard on Wednesday, Thursday, saturday and Sunday, the lady who looks after him when I can't is notoriously known to putting bandages on incorrectly. My questions to you guys are:

A) leave the bandages off untill I'm back Monday and ony bandage overnight.
B) let the lady bandage him anyway.
C) ask various friends who know how to do it take them on/off.

And would you bandage just over night, not at all, or for 23 hours? I just don't know what to do!! When I've had him in for 2 weeks before I've never had to bandage, so a bit clueless. What do you guys think? Xx

So if there is no heat or swelling what would be the advantage of cold hosing when this would be used to reduce heat & swelling?? I'd probably take the bandages off in the morning while I mucked out, then redo them when I'd done. Then take off, re roll & rebandage in the evening. Bad bandaging can cause a lot of problems, so if you have a reliable friend who could do it for you, would go for that option.

I have no idea! The vet told me to cold hose?? Yeah that is sounding like the best option, get a friend to help, hopefully they won't mind! Thanks for the advice :0) xx

Personally if it were me I wouldn't want someone bandaging my horse who couldn't do it correctly, and I would also want them re-doing at least twice within 23 hours. So I would either ask someone who can do it properly to do it on the days you cannot or could you buy some stable wraps or boots for the lady who looks after him to put on so that some support is still being provided without the risk of the bandages being done wrong and left for a long period of time?
