I have bought some gorgeous red fleece Cottage Craft bandages for the stable and wadding but when i put them on, the wadding makes the legs look really fat and unflattering, this cant be right?
Can i use the soft fleecy bandages without the wadding because the wadding is the thinest possible anyway and he hates have things round his legs so maybe the less the better but i just dont want to cut off his circulation.
I can however bandage reasonably well so I just need to know if this would be okay with out the wadding underneath. Thanks!!

Here is the bandages, let me know if the link doesnt work as its my first time posting a picture....

Link doesn't work. But i'm guessing they are the standard fleece ones? You need to have padding to reduce the chance of pressure points, so please don't think of bandaging without. Get someone who's experienced to come & have a look & show you what to do. If you're not used to seeing bandaged legs, they may look odd, but there's also a reasonable chance you've not done them correctly. Incorrect bandaging can cause lots of damage, so its not a criticism, but just to be on the safe side get someone to have a look what you've done with the padding, it's not worth the risk.

How strange, the link works on my computer.... Oh well and your're right though when I used to do it with cotton wool and crepe bandages they look fine so maybe its just bulky :)

Just wondering why you are using stable bandages really, they are there to serve a purpose, not look flattering ;) :) They are really not designed to be used without padding, although there are different types you can use if you don't like what you have - the original gamgee, or any of the newer kind of pads.

Personally I'm not a fan of stable bandages without there being a very good reason for use, I've seen the result of too many 'bad' bandaging attempts.

Sorry, not the most helpful reply, but in essence you do need some sort of padding to be correct (I have a set of the eskadron climatex pads if I do feel the need to bandage at any point, they're not especially bulky and are designed to prevent excess heating of the leg - although I remain unconvinced just how good they are at that). :)

You need wadding underneath to protect the legs from rubs etc. and some look puffier than others depending on badange type/wadding. i.e. these don't look too bad, but have thermatex ones that refuse to look neat (and I'm pretty damn good at stable bandages after having my horse on box rest for a rather long period of time)

Some people use fleece/polo bandages with nothing underneath for exercise - but for stable bandages you really need some kind of pad. I use either Eskadron Climatex pads (though I find them a bit thin for stable bandaging) or No Bow-wraps - these are the best in my opinion as there is no seam or edge that can cause trouble, and because they are so puffy virtually impossible to do up too tight. They are pretty cheap as well! http://www.tacksales.co.uk/vacs-no-bow-wrap.html

Thanks guys, keep those ideas coming!!

I use them to keep his white socks clean the night before a competition/event but otherwise he is out 24/7 and we compete about three times a week atm.

So COULD i use them as just bandages or MUST i use the wadding?? xx:)
