With the heavy snow my 2 horses are being stabled for longer than they would be normally and get quite board and fed up!!! Don't blame the really :P Does anyone have any ideas to make them a bit happier like stable toys! Know of anything that is supposed to work well ?? Thanka

Turnips are cheap and provide hours of fun (if your horse will eat them) likit's too but they're not cheap if you go through lots of them. A snack ball to extend the time it takes to eat their feed. Sticking carrots into haynets. There's lots of possibilities - depends on how much effort you want to make

Decahedron with fibre nuggets and chaff in. They fiddle about for ages. Also use two haynets, one inside each other so hay takes longer to eat.

Thanks for the great ideas!! I'll try the turnip idea and carrots in the haynet!! I have used likits but one of my horse eats it in about 10 mins LOL :P Great suggestions

Make a whole in the middle of a swede and hang it from stable, like you would do with a likit.

Also take a look on Rideway, they sell a ball with string stuff round it. You chop up bits of carrot, apple or what ever you want and thread them through the strings. I think its called a 'Distraction Aid' Keeps them occupied for ages.

I've just resorted to handing my kid's old wellies from the ceiling and painting them with honey / molasses (about a tablespoon covers the boot) and letting them lick them. They love it and it really does keep them busy....although they do end up with some sticky stuff in their mane

Am going to cut a small hole in the toe today and put some nuts in so they trickle out when rattled enough, it'll either work well or fail miserably but I'm having as much fun doing this as they are!

The swede inside a haylage net works really well and last for a couple of days. I tried hanging one from a string but he just grabbed hold of it and pulled and it split in half.

As well as the usual (decahedron, salt lick etc) my boy's also got a stable mirror. Only cost £30 and really made a difference, I can tell when he's needed it, if he's been in a lot or seen other horses go out when he's been left behind there are always smears all over the mirror where he's been 'socialising' with it (sniffing and trying to groom it).
