Please recommend me solar powered SIM card stable camera that works but doesn’t cost arm and leg. I looked at Xega and Reolink, the second seems very expensive, isn’t really worth the money? Please also put models you recommend so I can look them up and compare.
Thanks muchly ❤️

Sounds good! I was going to ask for a reolink for by birthday in a few weeks but now wondering whether to buy myself an xega instead 🤔

Mine is fairly new , about 4 months old but been great the solar works really well so never had to recharge. Only advice is don’t get the trial that records movements as videos, drains battery as basically films the entire time.

which one should I get? does it have an app that you can watch it from your phone like reolink? also do you have to mount it next to the solar panel? just wondering how it would work with putting the solar panel outside and the camera in the stable?

I have drilled a hole in the back wall to put my lead through, but you could just have it near the door, if the solar panel is on a lead, rather than attached to the camera. The lead is a couple of meters on mine.

I have a reolink. I have had quite a bit of trouble with it and am on the 4th replacement. Its good when working and customer service is good as they replace etc but they are expensive and have issues so not sure I would say they are the best.

Ooh thank you all for that - I've been really wanting one but couldn't quite justify the cost of the reolink. Will have a look in to the sim cards - does anyone know roughly how much data it uses?

The data is down to how much you watch it! I have a smarty sim which is £6 a month, can not remember how much data it is but so far not ran out. I just use mine to check they are ok as at a sole use yard so no one else about.

Just a quick update as I got a Xega and finding it so much more useful than I'd expected. I'd thought about getting a camera for years and now regret I didn't have one sooner. It means you can keep a much closer eye on the horses, make sure they're ok in bad weather etc and easily check they have enough hay. I also found that being able to check them without disturbing them is useful and it's been interesting to be able to observe them when a person isn't around.

If anyone else was like me and on the fence about getting one I really recommend it.

I’ve just put my xega up today in the field, so far it is amazing! And I am a complete technophobe.
I got an EE sim.
I know it’s a bit ago but I want to put a camera up in the field. My stable has Wifi so got cheap plug in ones for that. What sort of viewing range does it have? Like how far can you see across the field. What height do you have yours at?

I put a Ring camera in the stables when mine were in overnight this winter, very handy! It’s now in the chicken run 🧐 it works on our wifi though so totally irrelevant 😂

Mine covers a couple of acres ok. In the dark you cant see as far as during the day but can still see fairly far. Mine is about 7/8ft so that it's out of reach of the horses but I also have it about 6ft in another field and you can still see far.
