Can you not fix something like a scafolding bar in such a way that it prevents him from getting too clsoe to the door to kick it???
We did this at an old yard but built the wall out at the side of the door so that he couldnt reach to kick.... I presume you mean kicking with front legs???
I have a half round post across inside of door and when pony is in the door is open and the bar across door. So when your pony tried to kick there would be nothing to kick, either that or one of these door gates made from webbing but I might be worried he would get tangled in it if throwing front legs around.
We have a cob in our yard that is similar, he has gone through a couple of doors and just pushes through anything else that you put in the doorway - we now have a couple of loops of electric fence (energised) across the door with no door, and that seems to have stopped him. He does also have a big window (with no glass) at head height that he looks through instead of over the door.
umm, a really solid heavyweight door for starters! then stuff an old car tyre with newspapers (so he can't get a foot in it), wrap round with packing tape or duct tape, and hang that on the inside of the door so he kicks that, not the door. worked for years for one of mine.
or elec fencing, agree with that one.
electric fence sounds mean (i am such a soft touch) maybe too strong for a chain across but i like the idea of something to stop him. any ideas why he might be doing it?
he has been acting up in lessons too do you think he needs some TLC
I would suggest the owner tries to think it through as if she were the horse. Probably trying to tell her he doesn't want to be there. Ditto for the lessons. Then comes the harder part ... WHY?
I bought one of those quitkick water jet things and it was amazing............my horse, who had always kicked the door stopped over night. Problem solved!
By kicking do you mean pawing with his fore feet rather than wellying with his back feet?
Perhaps shut the top door, or put a rail up over the half door to stop him getting his head over? If he can't get his chest against the door he can't bash it.
