Stable doors for mini’s

That’s a good idea.
We did make a bodged one but it’s really not great and broke, so I bought stall guards, they work well and look cute/smart and are a cheap option. Mine ripped them off the door though so currently has his too high one back and has to lump it. He’s rarely in thought.

I planned to get a handy man type person to cut my current door down but I’m a bit worried it may just fall apart a sthey are a bit flimsy
 
I just made mine out of ply and some planks and fixed them inside the main stable door with hinges but opening the other way.
 
I’ve got a mesh panel which I can just lift off when I don’t need it, but also works as a door. I think it was a supermarket crate in a previous life, but a sheep hurdle would work as well I think. I have brackets on one side and just tie it shut on the inside of the frame with a leadrein clipped on the bolt stay that’s there.

The thing I learnt to my cost, is that the difference between too low that mine can jump out of and just right, is about 1cm 😂.

Cut the existing door down to the right size, but leave both pieces attached to the hinges. Add an extra hinge where necessary and put bolts between the two pieces. You then have a door for a mini which can be bolted to the other part when you need a full size door.
 
You could think outside the box, and put in a ridiculously deep bed to give her the extra height she needs to see over the existing door. AKA KITT's husband can't be trusted to bed down the stable like a normal person. It is very comfy, mind you!

The yard I used to be on made a step for their Shetland so he could pop his front legs on and see over the door. It worked brilliantly, but I’m pretty sure mine would get his back legs up somehow and hop over 😂

I would do this so your essentially keeping the set up the same and small door can be removed if needed for a big horse.

In my experience livery yards don't want the door changed or cut down but obviously not a problem if its your own yard.
 
At our old place we switched top door to bottom and that was perfect. This time the stables didn’t come with top doors.
I do keep eyeing up Mr P’s new circular saw…. How hard can it be?!
 
Measure the size you want and just go to Wicks/similar and they will cut you a wood sheet to size. Use existing hinges. Voila
