Stable Guards?

Hey,

Does anyone use stable guards for warm days?

What are peoples thought on them?
Do they just make the stable drafty or are they nice to let the air in and let the pony see out? I'm considering getting one for my mini Shetland so when he's in he can see what's going on around him ect..

Depends on how big your shetland is, and how high up and how big it is. For example, if it's huge and touches the floor, you have the chance of him getting his hoof caught in it?
But if it's small and mid height, he may be ok.

I use trailer rubber covered chains. Never had them crawl underneath.

I use them all year in the day unless blowing a gale. I think mine like the idea of not being locked in.

All my horses have rubber chains across the doors - they love it and you can come in and out without fear of them pushing the door open! But my shetlands have to have two about a foot apart as they seem to be able to get under them!

Use each. They're ace, especially when you have a black cob that sweats at the sight of the sun.

The only problems i've had is that you either have to take them off then the door is shut or place the rings so that the door doesn't catch them if you leave it up then the door is shut otherwise the clip can get stressed and break...Oh and Blue have to have his folded up as he has got his foot stuck before when pawing even though it's at the correct hight (he's not not allowed it up and his door open unsupervised anymore)

I say if you get one of the chains and have it positioned at shetland hight it'll be fine. You can always put his water bucket in the middle of his doorway to discourage any escape attempts.
